"You know, the Hive Master gave you the chance to uncurse one of us. I suggest her, or Diamond."

 

"I thought he gave Aj that chance. And I don't think I've met Diamond."

 

Emerald seems to be avoiding eye contact.
"The world you left Amethyst in... look in the depths of the desert. She's blind, and her scream tears at the souls of everyone in front of her."

 

"And deaf. It's not like she can hear her own screams. But what's your point? All of you have curses, no?"

 

"She can, but... mine's useful, in a sense. It keeps me tireless, letting me work at maximum capacity... forever."

 

"Oh. Huh."
Pause.
"It's not my choice, though."

 

"Please keep them from using it on me..." Emerald sighs.

 

"Alright. I can try my best, if that's really what you want."

 

"I need it less badly than others." Emerald sighs, agitated at the conversation.

 

I teleport away from him to regain balance for a moment while I telekinetically attempt to rip his arm off.

 

"Not ringing any bells, sorry." Shadow Stephanie says, shrugging.

 

"What do you mean? I just collected some fruits."

 

I just nod.

 

"You smell of smoke."

Pause.
"Tracker'll be out in a few minutes. Maybe you'll want to reach out to Aj to see where he's at with things?"

"Hopefully she forgot, too." Rineth mumbles.

He may be physically exhausted, but his hide is more resilient than his will to fight.
"O-okay... I yield... g-got nothin' left..." He pants.

 

"Do you know if he's at his palace?"

 

"I kill lots of people anyway. How do you expect me to remember every one?" Shadow Stephanie says, shrugging.

Praecantatia gets up, an asleep Stephanie in her arms.

"I don't want to burden your journey much longer, so I'll let you go find those tomes you need. I'll bring Stephanie to you once you do." Praecantatia says happily, a glowing, round pad appearing behind her.

 

"Oh.. that."
Pause.
"I uh.. I met someone I knew. In a way."

 

"Wonderful!" I say, "I very much enjoyed dragging the duel out."
It seems my skin grew back during the fight at some point.

 

"He's going to Maralune."

Rineth nods.
"I'll keep in touch. You're the mother Stephanie deserved." He says, opening a portal back to the Void Palace.

He sighs, signalling the reset.
He offers you a handshake.
"Thanks for the duel, sorry I couldn't put up more of a fight."
