Back to the unnamed portal.

 

Voidfiller enters, swiftly flying around the ocean for a bit.

 

The waters are quiet, a few fishing boats out to take advantage of the calm conditions.

There seems to be a bit of an oasis on one island, complete with ruins that have lost pretty much any identifying factor.

 

"So why does he want to fight so many people? Or rather, robots?" Praecantatia asks.

 

"His prime directive... what he sees as his sole purpose, is to find someone worthy of the information contained inside of him. And by worthy... he means strong enough to best the Ancient Draconians' last bid to preserve their knowledge."
Pause.
"If he's promised challengers, he will follow. The only strange thing, if you ask me, is that he doesn't care at all for alleigances. He took Aj's offer without a second thought - just after he beat a set of opponents lined up by the Hive Master."

 

"He seems like he's on his own side." Praecantatia says, shrugging, picking up one of her golems wandering about and deactivating it to check it over.

 

"That's the second best way I've heard it put, the other being is that he doesn't even acknowledge that there are sides in this." Emerald says. "Still, as long as he's pacified, he's not between us and our foe."
Pause.
"So... are you ready for the briefing?"

 

Praecantatia puts the golem back down, before clicking her fingers. Praecantatia glows for a moment, before her summery clothing is replaced with her usual moon shirt, long trousers and black boots.

 

Emerald uses about twenty tomes to serve as a large holographic display.

It shows two tomes with eyes on the covers, and two corpses that are brutally splattered against the ground.
"So, the last artifact has to do with a royal family that part of the group killed. With me so far?"

 

Praecantatia nods, Fia appearing beside her to take notes.

 

I find a book that interests me, some of the pages seem to have been torn out. "Hmph, Creatures of the Peaks, this should be interesting. I bet they're all extinct anyway, since this place flooded." I say to myself, knowing that nobody will hear me anyway.
And just as I thought, not a soul in sight. I sit on a rock to read the book, since chairs are a luxury I sadly can't afford.

 

The moss offers some cushion, but not much.
Moreso out of weariness, you let the book absorb you. However, halfway through...

You hear something move across the top of the water, like something took a step into the cavern you're in.

"Those tomes are of eldritch practice, and the relic is sealed inside - though the seal is double layered, and thus both tomes are needed."
Pause.
"The tomes were made to only respond to their users, two children who are no more. If anything else could activate them, it would be the blood of their parents. Once activated, the group needs to let each tome overpower the mind of one of their members. Only those two will be able to navigate the secret realm hidden inside."

 

"I'd trust my daughter is capable of such a practise. She may only be a demigod, but I know she has great psychic potential within her." Praecantatia says.

 

"I would assume she is one of the two... but they must send one more. Both layers must be disabled at once; leaving the dimension would reset it."

 

"I'm sure they'll be able to succeed." Praecantatia says positively.

 

"They have a colossal carrot on the end of this stick. I'd be surprised if they gave up - if they failed at all."

 

"What are the risks if one of them is not mentally strong enough or can't get through the realm?" Praecantatia asks.

 

"They become as consumed by madness as the royal family was. Probably die."

 

"Hm." Praecantatia says, Fia especially noting this.

 

The sound startles me quite a lot, I just barely refrain from letting out a screech. I look around to see if anyone is there, yet I don't see anybody.
