You notice a tiny yellow flower sprouting right beside you. "Howdy, it's me. "Heh... I hope you're not going to pass that on to a rider... She'd probably be betrayed for her soul."
I continue petting the black dragon, then roll the red dragon back on its feet.

 

I sit down on the mossy floor and put my head in my hands.

Abigail puts a hand on my shoulder in concern, "Are you feeling alright?" She asks.

"Yeah, it's just...nothing. Nothing at all." I say, trying to smile.

"Alright then..." Abigail says doubtfully, looking over at Artemis.

"I can't escape myself..." I think.

"You can't change what's going to happen; you'll need to get used to messing these things up." The voice echoes.

"I don't want to keep making enemies though. Can't I move past myself?" I think.

"We both know the answer to that." The voice echoes.

"I know..." I say out loud, burying my face in my hands in stress.

 

At the mention of her soul, the snowy dragon whimpers and scampers away. She hides behind the dragon made purely of shadow, who's much larger than her.

"The bond between dragon and rider surpasses even the best of friends. Still it's possible... I can't really let her leave either. Most of the other dragons her age have already learned how to fly, even weakly. Yet she hasn't set foot outside of here since she arrived. It's just too dangerous for her."

The red dragon regains it's senses, blinking stupidly. The black dragon nuzzles you.

 

"Hey, look, you'll be okay. I'm not here to hurt you."
I continue petting the dragon.
"This one's sweet. Ihra would want to take it with her... More reasons for her not to be here."
I smile at the thought and at the dragon.

"As for the snowy dragon... she can't progress if she constantly fears for her life. Does she react to drelsh?"

 

The dragon grins back.

"Sort of..." The mage pulls out and tosses it near the shadow dragon (heheh... References). The shadow dragon sniffles in his sleep, but doesn't stir. The snowy dragon darts out of hiding and bats it slowly before darting back to her spot behind the shadow dragon. The vine dragon, still asleep, subconsciously ensnares the drelsh in vines, tossing it around.

"Aurorius doesn't have drelsh, and thus the dragons there live without it's effects. She's only faintly drawn to it, being new to Brisingr."

 

I walk over to her hiding spot.
"So it's something specific to Brisingr and it can interest dragons from other places given time for exposure..."
I step to the side so the snowy dragon would be in my view, despite her hiding.

 

The snowy dragon glares at you, spitting a shard of ice.

 

"It's okay... I won't hurt you."
I put the black dragon on the ground, patting it as my attention turns to the snowy dragon.
"I think I know one of my kind that may be able to bond with her more. She wields ice, but I think she's a bit busy right now. I could see if she's willing to come, if you wouldn't mind."

I open the blue tome and form a similar-shaped ice shard in my hand.
I bend down and hold my hand and the ice out.

 

"That might help a great deal."

The snowy dragon's glare softens. She darts forward and eats the ice.

 

Paging through the tome, I form more ice in my hand.
"I'll see if I can reach out to her."

 

"Thank you."

The snowy dragon hooks the ice in a claw, rolling around with it.

 

The mage is let in on the telepathic conversation.

"Everything okay?"
"Huh? Oh, yes. Good to hear from you! Ihra's doing fine."
"I'm guessing Rineth's back?"
"Indeed... Sometimes I wish she would let him be, but he's the only one that keeps her in check."
"How's life with your new master?"
"It's tiring as usual, but I'm happy."
"I'm sorry about your former mistress... but do you think you can break for awhile?"
"Something come up? Signs of Mistress?"
"No, there's an orphan whose soul goes for a pretty penny... but they're a snowflake in a land of fire."
"I'll just... make an exception. Where's there a clear area?"
"I linked you to one of the mages here. They can answer that."

I turn to them.
"Sounds like she's willing to teleport in."

 

"Great." To Xephyr "You can teleport onto the tower's balcony." They project an image of the balcony.

 

"One moment."

"Master? Vesius requested my presence. May I take leave for a while?"

OOC: Timeskip for compensation and I'm tired. Yeah, I know that's not a reason.

A dark aura forms over the balcony, then two rings lines with glyphs and sigils.
They collapse, then Xephyr materializes there.

She takes a moment to look at her surroundings, and the air around her drops in temperature.
"Vesius?"
"In here."

 

The mage waves a hand and the balcony door opens. Though they keep glancing around at the dragons, making sure they don't try to escape.

The snowy dragon pops it's head out from behind the shadow dragon, curious as to the temperature drop. They spot Xephyr raise an... eyebrow? Cartilage where the eyebrow would be located on a regular human? I don't know...

 

"Well... I didn't know you were one for children."
"I was just curious, but here... This one."

Xephyr crouches down, laying her tome on the ground.
She reaches towards the snowy dragon, smiling.
"It's okay. You'll be fine, little one."

 

The snowy dragon seems rather contented, even starting up a miniature snow storm over her head.

 

Idala shrinks into the figurine and then appears as her normal self again.
She takes out a sickle. Which she then turns into the daggers she was using before and runs towards Ihra.

"What the... I won't even ask how you did that."

"No, all the armies were destroyed. Monsters never go near this place, possibly because of who the King used to be."

"Yes, you may leave for a while if you wish to."

 

"Thank you, master. Tap the locket if you need me."

With a collapsing pair of rings, she's gone.

...

"Ihra's just asleep." Rineth whispers.

Xephyr forms a little ice cave around the snowy dragon.
"Aww... why would anyone want to hurt this little one?"
"You haven't seen anything yet."
