Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"D-Did we do something wrong?" Angela asks, worried.

"I don't know, but I feel like we're going to be eaten by the pet we're going to speak to." Katie says nervously.

"I-I don't w-wanna die!" Angela says, starting to cry.

 

An archer glares at Katie.
"You're easily bigger than Embers. She can't hurt either of you if she tried in the state she's in. Now, palace is the obvious castle, so you can be cordial or you can leave a starving wolf waiting." They say. "Now, please don't just stand in the middle of the bridge. We've got caravans passing through in three minutes."

 

The pair quickly run across the bridge.

 

On the inside, the entire city seems to be built using some kind of ashwood and volcanic stone. The paths and roads are marked with red embers and red-hot rock, but both seem cool enough for the humans who live here to walk barefoot across them.

 

The pair look for the palace they're meant to enter, or anyone to guide them.

 

The castle/palace towers above the rest of the city, the highest spire reaching to the clouds.

 

The pair looks for an entrance to it, Angela staying close to Katie, nervous.

 

Imps, lava monsters, humans, and a few fae pass by as the group goes, the gates to the palace closed and blocked by two statues.

"Name and reason for entry?" A guard calls from... nowhere visible.

 

"Katie, we wanted to talk to the pet of a fire queen." Katie says.

 

The statues' eyes flare up, magma seeping from the cracks in the construct as they creak to life and pull open the gates.

"Make haste; Embers is on the twentieth floor of the northern tower."

 

Katie and Angela enter, trying to go north to find the tower.

 

The fountain in the courtyard doubles as a giant compass, north leading to the royal chambers.

...the door's blocked by a sleeing guard, though.

Katie waits a moment, before shaking the guard lightly.

 

"Uh, yeah, sure."
Crystal says, a bit nervous.
"What just happened?"

I do a second round of searching for people before leaving the castle.

 

They yawn, the door opening.

"Battle. Why?"

Nobody new, but it seems one of the raptors fell down the stairwell with a book on its head.

 

Katie and Angela go through the door.

 

"Do battles like that just happen normally?"

I stop and check on the raptor.

 

There's two spiralling staircases on either end of the room, the entrance to the throne room open, the throne empty.

It's stumbling around trying to rip the book off, but it's not getting anywhere.
