"What if you were to fight yourself?" I ask, curious.

 

"Illogical query."

 

"Can you calculate things?" Artemis asks nervously, stepping out from behind me but staying close.

 

"Yes, though that seems like a query for a calculator."

 

"I just wanted an answer to an equation." Artemis says.

 

"My point stands, but ask."

 

"What's zero divided by zero?" Artemis asks.

I facepalm.

 

"Nice try."

 

Artemis holds my hand tightly, terrified.

"So, uh, what are you doing in the underworld?" I ask, trying to change the subject.

 

"My body was reconstructed here, though I don't remember being taken apart. I was then deactivated and left here. 0.5% dormant shield power was sufficient to protect me."

 

"Maybe you failed your mission to find someone more powerful than you? Or succeeded, and they gave you mercy." I say.

 

"Not possible. Defensive capacity has never exceeded 25%."

 

"Would you be able to record your defensive capacity exceeding 100% if you were badly damaged?" I ask.

 

"I don't know. My body is unscathed until I reach 50%."

 

"So maybe you got defeated, thrown down here into the underworld and you're just running a backup with events recorded before the battle you lost." I suggest.

 

"I don't have backups, and I know I have not been defeated. I will simply cease to be after my defeat."

 

"So you just disappear?" I ask.

 

"No, I'll simply never reactivate."

 

"Huh, that sucks." I say.

"Uhm, A-Aj, do you think...she would be able to fight...this." Artemis asks me nervously.

"No, she's not designed for skuffles or challenges, she's designed for efficient kills," I say, "Besides, I'm not risking years worth of work and effort for some old knowledge."

 

"That explains why people turn a blind eye to my ability... let me show you one of my utility capabilities."
