"Four, including this one. I've been to two."

 

Most of the group don't seem to notice, or care enough to pay attention, though Artemis seems terrified, hugging me tightly.

 

It turns back to Stephanie.
"One of your group members appears to object to your decision."

"Still, one world's big enough for most. You've got five if you count that palace place."

 

"Six, technically. I don't come from the palace, or the Void."

 

"Is there no portal for your homeworld?"

 

"No, but I don't much care for that place. And, now that I think about it, seven, because there's a portal to another palace in the library."

 

I stand on guard, as several lightning bolts form behind me.

 

"Wait... how'd we get from five to se-oh, right."

Sivius rests his other hand on the hilt of his broadsword, twilight needles forming around his rapier.

 

"Right."
I say, nodding.
"You should probably get some sleep."

 

"Yep. I think we're all headed there."

 

"Well, not all of us, but I see what you're getting at."

 

"You're not us. You've always been you."

 

I shrug.
"If you say so."

 

Pause.
"Look, we appreciate the help, but you're never going to be considered one of us. Not until even more change happens and even more time passes."

 

"I can live with that. I don't really care how you think of me, unless you really want to kill me."
I admit.

 

"Not after all this."

 

"Well, that's good to know."

 

"Whom?" Stephanie asks, glancing back.

 

"I'd be surprised if you expected any differently."

"Scanning..."

"That's...surprisingly accurate." Stephanie says.
