"We've never heard of a talking raptor." The guard says.

"Uh... hi?" Ytir says, nervous as he approaches the guard.
"Hello. Um... these circumstances aren't the best, but... nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too, but I'm not sure if they've ever been particularly good."
"Heh, fair point. Ruin did a number on you?"
"Yeah. Not much to eat and not many of us live that long. We found an old calendar, and the chiefs are the only one who make it twelve months."
"Really? I... honestly have to admire your resilience."
"Thanks, though we're always impressed with the new ways you find to kill us. Just... not in the same way."
"Well... I know what you mean. If it's any comfort, you're in good hands with that robot."
"Yeah. Still nervous due to... you know, history... but with all the crazy stuff that's happened lately, I guess something's really going on."
"Absolutely. For the better or for the worse, we're also in your position... I mean, we've got crops, but we don't have numbers anymore."
"I wouldn't worry. Chiefs barter all the time, I'm sure you can work something out."
"I guess.
...thanks for being willing to come here. It's a shock to me, and I figure it'll be a shock to others as well."
"Well, Thirteen had a plan, and chief gave mine a chance. I believe that if someone puts effort into a plan, it's at least worth looking into."
The guard laughs.
"I think we all have to go all in at this point!"

 

I read about it.

 

The entire thing is pretty much on how not to cut yourself, a few things underlined in blood likely to point out things not to be taken for granted, such as how flicking your wrist a bit too far can cut your hand in half.

 

"I...w-what? How c-could that be?" Angela asks, confused and scared, "I'm n-not a murder, a-am I?"


The group eventually finishes, the pile of food set aside seeming to be made of a portion of every unique thing there was to eat.

"That...was...amazing..." Shadow Stephanie says, looking rather full.

"I should hire you as a chef." I say, smiling.

 

"I don't know, but I want to know why you don't want me to know either."


"Thanks, but you know I've already got my retirement covered." Ali chuckles.

 

"I-I'm not trying t-to hide information from you, I d-don't know what's h-happening." Angela says, terrified, turning paler.


"Shame. You really have talent with food." I say happily.

 

Sapphire scans Angela's soul again, saying nothing.


"That means a lot, but I guess one of us should tell the rest of your friends what I did?"

 

It's still the same as Abigail's.


"Oh, right. Ali very kindly gave us the relic we wanted." I say happily.

Stephanie spits out her coffee in surprise, which Katie manages to catch mid-air before it gets over anything, freezing it into a cube.

"That's so kind of you, Ali!" Stephanie says happily.

"Thank god we don't have to go back to that place and get even more pissed off," Shadow Stephanie says, relieved, "Your cafe was the best place there. Like a slice of heaven in hell."

 

"If I dump water on your head, will you be mad?" Sapphire asks.


"Well... yes. That and... to get it, I kinda closed up shop. Mayor's deal to you was that he'd give it if you promised never to come back. And... I took the deal. So, Aj said I could join your group in your fight." She admits.

 

"Yes! I'll be all wet and cold!" Angela says.


"Mayor sounds like a dick." Shadow Stephanie says bluntly.

"I knew a mayor once who was really kind. Everyone loved him, to be fair. All he wanted to do is make a city out of cans." I say happily.

"That sounds like the fakest story you've ever told..." Shadow Stephanie says flatly.

 

Sapphire pauses.
"What if I told you it was warm water?"

"He's just doing his job. It's like someone saying you shadows are garbage because you killed someone." Ali shrugs. "That aside... hopefully you don't mind me tagging along."

 

"I'd still get wet!" Angela says.


"Are you sure you can handle it? Our adventures can be pretty dangerous, we've even had quite a few almost casualties, and Stephanie's already died once." Artemis asks.

"You need to be well experienced with fighting if you want to stand a chance with us." Shadow Stephanie says.

 

"You're sounding like Abigail, too." Sapphire says, pouring a glass of water.

"The shifting sands of time shall tell." Ali shrugs.

 

"A-Am I?" Angela asks, her fear returning.


There's silence for a bit.

"I wonder what Sapphire is doing with Angela." Katie says, looking over at Sapphire and Angela.

 

Sapphire slides it over to a chimera.
"I've got my eye on you. Go relax." She says, getting up and leaving.

"Leaving her, apparently. Why's she so suspicious of Angela? She was a wonderful change of pace from Abigail back when emotions were running hot."

 

Anegla shakes for a moment out of fear, before heading to the main table quickly.

"I saved you some food, Angela." I say, sliding the pile of food I set aside toward Angela once she sits down.

"O-Oh, thanks. T-That's very k-kind of you." Angela says nervously.


"Maybe she wants to bring everyone else down with her." Shadow Stephanie says, shrugging.

 

Ali cuts the sunbeam and slides Angela a glass of warm tea.
"She didn't shake you up too much worse, did she?"


"Who, Sapphire?"

 

"S-She's really scaring me. She c-calling me s-some kind of m-murderer b-because I apparently s-share her soul. I-I'm really scared." Angela says, nervously eating her food.


Shadow Stephanie nods.

 

"What do you mean? Souls are the one thing that can't be cloned."


"Sapphire just seems excluded to me. Loneliness drives people to insanity."

 

"I-I know! I'm r-really scared." Angela says, terrified as she eats her food.


Shadow Stephanie just shrugs.
