"Yes, you must consume a flower in order to inaugurate your leadership."

 

"Don't you dare."

Linoa complies for a bit, grinning.

"She will wake up four hours and twenty three minutes from now. I suggest you schedule your activities accordingly."

"And what does the flower do?"

 

"That's...accurate. I guess we'll put some food aside for her then so she can eat it fresh." Lily says, heading back downstairs to prepare dinner.

 

"So I'm going to have to ask you questions from out here?"
I ask.

"I'm gonna go."
Crystal opts to start walking away, clearly happy to leave the situation.

 

"There's one advantage of living with the same girl who sleeps on the same bed every night for ten years; you get over 36 hundred nights to monitor sleep patterns. Since you seem to be taking over my job for the most part, her sleep length depends on the air pressure in her wolf toy. There's a sweet spot that makes her sleep longer, or you can puff more air or undo the valve on the toy to make her wake up a bit earlier if you need her awake for a trip."

"Don't forget, we're still your friends and that at the end of the day, we still want you around."

 

"What happened to everyone after the Inhibitor broke?"
I start.

"...Okay."
Crystal stops, then continues to walk.

 

"Everything wilted. Our houses are starting to fall apart around us. Everything just... died."

Nobody else stops him.

 

"I mean, with the people."

Crystal walks to Xelentia's chambers, hoping to find her.

 

"Panic."

There's a giant sign, scribbled messily.
"Gone fox watching, will be back whenever I feel done messing with them"

 

"Where the hell is everyone?"

A bit upset, Crystal walks to the portal room.

 

"Alright, thank you." Lily says.

 

"That is for you to ask. However, you are to consume the flower." I say, cutting the line and waiting by the portal for my second-in-command to pass through.

 

"Locked in their homes or dead."

There's an obvious dirt trail going into one of the portals.

They enter, bowing to you as they arrive.

The mantis toy just lets the link fade as it squeaks back over to a window, watching the world go by.

 

"Nobody's in charge?"

Crystal follows the trail.

 

Lily starts preparing dinner downstairs in the kitchen.

 

"Not anymore."

It just keeps going, and going, until giant claw marks suggest Xlentia took off over an ocean.

There's a knock at the door.

 

Charlie answers the door as Lily prepares dinner.

 

"Fine, I'll apologize but, I'm not going to them. Like I said my village needs protection and I'm the only one who can protect it." I say not able to take anymore of this

 

The queen half-bows.
"I, uh... asked permission to meet who would be taking care of my daughter through our troubling times."

 

"Ah, you must be Perry's mother. It's nice to meet you, I'm Charlie, and I'm one of the people looking after your daughter." Charlie says happily, offering a polite handshake.
