"And do what with you?" Artemis asks.

 

"Just ask Laze, ah here he comes."

 

Laze steps in.
"We aren't immune to fire."

"Skin me."

 

Artemis seems to think for a while.

"Would you know of any other ways into the humans' castle other than bringing you there dead?" Artemis asks.

 

"Not really."

 

"According to him, he was. Anne burn him."

 

"Then he's lying to you."

 

"Do you have any doppelgängers?" Artemis asks.

 

"No, not that I know of."

 

"Mind if I try messing one of these up?"
I ask the raptors.

 

Artemis thinks for a while.

"Then, may I have some of your blood?" Artemis asks.

 

"W-what?!"

"I don't think the dead would mind."

 

"Just a small sample of your blood." Artemis says, lifting her mask slightly to show her teeth, smiling.

 

The raptor backs up.
"I don't think I'd like that."
"Don't you go snapping his neck, lady." Another raptor calls.

 

"It's mostly harmless, don't worry." Artemis says, shifting her mask back down.

 

"Mostly? Hell, if he passes out we're tearing you apart! Eklir, let her."
"H-hey, I didn't say yes!"
"SHUT UP."

 

"Isn't it your food, though?"
I ask, picking one of them up.

 

"Do you have any problems with your cardiovascular system or blood that may cause you to pass out easily, then?" Artemis asks.

 

"If you want a sample of his blood, then why don't you find out?"
Eklir just remains still.

"Mostly, but it's not like we won't pile up more corpses."
