"I-It's nice t-to meet you," Angela says nervously, turning a little pale as she accepts the handshake, "A-A-A few of the A-Anubi mentioned you."

 

"Build a side bridge and we're in."

"We should probably go, yeah."

 

I turn to the Matriarch.
"Have you seen it?"

"Okay, lead the way."

 

Nyx smiles.
"My mother, not me. She left me a note and her weapons. I could show you one if you want; they're laced with a constantly evolving neurotoxin that brings slow and painful death. Better yet, if anyone tries to cure or remove the toxin, it spreads faster!" She says, happy. "I'm still trying to figure out how to recreate it, but it's not going well. My knockoffs are all cureable."

Linoa pulls out her staff, offering Crystal up.

 

"A-Are you d-d-doing her work f-f-f-for her? L-Like k-k-k-killing people t-that are b-b-bad?" Angela asks, clearly rather terrified but trying to keep it together.

 

"No, she's... dead, I fear. But yeah, I'm killing people. Nick 'em, send them to their healers, and take note on their slow ends... unless they're cured, then take notes on how they cured it, and do it again with a deadlier poison. The more writhing and screaming, the better, mother always said!"

 

"Y-Yes, *ahem* the d-d-demons, uhm, c-called Shadows l-l-like to cause s-s-s-suffering too." Angela says, fighting every instinct telling her to run for her life.

 

"I'd love to meet them!" Nyx says happily. "Would you mind taking me there?"

 

"S-S-S-S-Sure, just t-take my h-h-h-h-hand." Angela says, nervously extending her hand.

 

Nyx holds it gently, smiling eagerly as twin scimitar appear sheathed on her back.
"If they're genocidal, you need a bargaining chip." She says.

 

Angela and Nyx are teleported to the gates of the Shadow Palace, the crystal disappearing.

"Halt! Identify yourself, stranger!" One of the guards at the gate says with a stern tone, her eyes locked on Nyx.

 

"Nyx the Second, demigod of pain and the daughter of the goddess of death and suffering. Hemomancer and nethergrasper, master of twenty seven high demons." She says, bowing.

 

"Have you come to visit the king then?" The guard asks, a little less stern.

 

"I don't know. Angela said there were genocidal demons here, and I wanted to meet them. Maybe see if my mother's poisons are effective on things off my homeworld." She shrugs.

 

"That's what the humans call us," The guard says, glancing at Angela, "If you just wanted to meet more of our kind, you could go to the city. Richest one in the realm."

 

"Any prisoners you have I could use to test poisons and your medical prowess? I can't help but have seen a shadow with an odd katana with a green-haired girl who was an impressive healer. I'd like to see how my mother's toxins compare to the healing abilities of this world."

 

"We have prisoners in the dungeons, and the Shadow and girl was the King and his girlfriend, Artemis." The guard says.

 

"Would you mind if you gathered your best healers so I can compare your medical abilities to my mother's work?" Nyx asks.

 

"You'll have to ask the king about that." The guard says.

 

"Where is he?" She asks, wiping some blood off her face after realizing she looks a bit unpresentable with as many demonic sigils she has all over her robe.
