Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

There's a sense of unease in the air as Alice walks toward the looming door.

 

Alice knocks on the door quietly.

 

"Enter." A familiar voice calls.

 

Alice opens it and steps inside.
"...Hi."

 

"Oh. Alice, it's you." Yxun says, working through papers, glancing up at Alice.

 

"It's no welcome back, but I'd figured you went and got a flashlight for self defense. This works." She mumbles. "Did you ever get any cases from anyone other than the bureaucrats?"

 

"A few." Yxun says, doing his paperwork.

 

"Any against me, from not those... b-... bureaucrats?"

 

"A few." Yxun repeats.

 

"What would I have to go through to get re-hired, or do I need to just ride out the rest of my life with my sisters?"

 

"Why do you want to come back here after you stormed off?" Yxun asks.

 

"I don't, but having a job here saves me from having to magitech body-mod myself to the point I'm a soul in a godslaying weapon." Alice says bluntly.

 

"How does it? Just occupying your time?" Yxun asks.

 

"Yeah. Gives me an excuse. Don't even pay me, I just want to show up and claim I'm working. Then I could just stay home and, like, not have to tear holes in reality because someone else wants me to."

 

"So you want me to just let you lay about in your office all day?" Yxun asks, curious.

 

"Or at home. Just have me on the staff list so I have an excuse. You seen the constructs the engineers are almost done with? Those are three weapons for one of my sisters. Another held off the king and Eve single handedly in defense of her library. My schtick is that I tear holes in reality as easily as I chew gum."

 

Yxun sighs.

"Alright, I'll mark you as an employee." He says.

 

Alice slides him five gold coins.
"Thanks. You're the best fake employer." She says, turning to leave.

 

Yxun just goes back to his paperwork, sighing.

 

Alice glances back.
"What, want nothing of me? Just forge an employee list." She says, waving a hand that seems to autofill what she's overlooked on the paperwork.
