Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Am I dreaming that you're talking to me too?" She asks, seeing if she can will a dagger of light into her dream, near her.

 

"Somewhat, yes," Tenebrae says, "Consider it telepathic communication through a dream."

A dagger of light appears near to Alice, easily created.

 

"Is that because I'm not your child and am forbidden a link during consciousness?" Alice asks, trying to telekinetically rotate the dagger as if intending to stab herself. "Because I haven't dreamed in as long as I can remember and damn I hate my dreams."

 

"No, you just fell asleep." Tenebrae says.

 

"I can tell. And if I kill myself in a dream, I wake up, no?"

 

"Yes, but why would you want to waste your chance to talk to me? Clearly you wanted to speak with me for a reason, didn't you?" Tenebrae asks.

 

Alice hesitates.
"Yes. I wanted to know if you knew what was slowly binding me to you, and slowly destroying my dormant, non-shadow body."

 

"I am not sure, though I have felt your presence slowly becoming attached to me. Perhaps it is because you share the body of my children, and by staying in my universe, you're slowly being converted into a Shadow as your body not native to this universe is being destroyed by disassociation." Tenebrae says.

 

"So... I'm becoming a paradoxical being because of the fact I'm cursed?" Alice groans, clearly hoping for a better answer, though not angry with Tenebrae but herself.

 

"Not a paradoxical being. You a not a child of light and darkness. You are becoming a Shadow, and will soon be native to this universe instead of your own," Tenebrae explains, "If you don't want that to happen, I suggest you return to your universe and find a way to remove your Shadow body and restore your own; unless you want to be one of my children."

 

Alice pauses.
"Not in that sense. I mean... I will either wind up being a shadow that can empower shadows, or I will be a shadow that cannot empower. Furthermore, I... well, I really worry about losing what I know. I would usually willingly swear to become a child of a goddess I love so, but... I don't know if the price is something I can live with."

 

"Your mind would stay the same, your body would change. If you wish, once you become a Shadow, I may be able to re-create you so you could be a normal Shadow of power appropriate to your own." Tenebrae says, smiling.

 

"I'm still not sure. Being able to hide in shadows is extremely beneficial to intel collection. Plus, your children aren't thrilled with me because I called their secrets irrelevant and quit my job."

 

"Nothing they hold is secret from me, I know every thought and memory of every Shadow," Tenebrae says, "However, I can sense you have deeply offended a very tiny portion of my children."

 

"Those who hide behind facts as small as those and call them secrets do not warrant my care about how my findings influence them."
Pause.
"You know, I'm not sure I'm comfortable with you knowing everything I do."

 

"I care very little about the thoughts and memories of my children if they are living normal lives," Tenebrae explains, "It is like taking something free. The option to take it is there, but you do not necessarily need to take it. I only look into the minds of my children should I need to, such as in re-creation of them. I would know everything you thought and did, but I would not pay attention to it. It would simply be a piece of knowledge I am free to access."

 

Alice nods.
"My siblings and I have never lived normal lives."
Pause.
"Though, I am curious... is knowing such little information behind an iron curtain really something your children have prayed against me over?"

 

"None have prayed against you. They have mostly prayed for safety, good fortune, or simply to feel comforted," Tenebrae says, "The fact that some Shadows do not believe in my existence still amuses me."

 

"The shadow before me booked it like I was the reaper or something."

 

"Knowledge is power. The Shadows in the capital city's palace are afraid of what you know; they fear you may use your knowledge of them to bring them harm." Tenebrae says.
