Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"As it should."
I say, moving next to them.
"It's made of cloths, instead of dirt or, a popular bed when a frame isn't present, a pile of straw."
I explain.

 

"So... sort of like a nest? That makes sense."

 

"Yes, except it's generally harder to make a bed, but it is softer as well as not rigid."

 

"Huh. So, a bed is just a pad above the ground on a frame?" The raptor asks.

 

"To narrow it down, yes."

 

The raptor seems smug about his correct guess.
"And the other advisors say that me takin' stuff apart was a waste of time. Just they wait..."

 

"Don't get ahead of yourself. Some things are simpler in words than they are in action."
I warn.

 

"I know, but they don't even know how armor works! They worry about strength and speed, but I want to know why! Why can't they brute force open the cracks in rock walls, why the tunnels we dig can't keep out the wind and cold, even if we cover them!"

 

"What do you cover them with?"

 

"Dirt, leaves, or bend down bramble with rocks."

 

"Do your bodies produce heat?"

 

"I don't think so. I can't find any piece of flint, either... so I can't make a fire."
Pause.
"I'm the only one who knows how. And I don't know how to put one out."

 

"Tunnels can't keep out the cold because if you don't have body heat there's no warmth to begin with. Also, you can put out a fire using water, forcing a lack of oxygen, or putting it in a place where the fire can't spread and leaving it there for a while."
I explain.

 

"...Oh. That would be why too. I... uh... guess I made us all look stupid... Chief's gonna chew me up big time for that..."

 

"What'd you do?"

 

"Well, I apologize for trespassing. I most humbly request to be given permission to tread on your ground." I say, bowing to really add to the effect.

 

"I thought admitting that would make you think we're stupid. I'd get chewed up for that..."

They pause.
"At a price. You have coin on you?"

 

"You admitted a few things."
I point out.

 

"Something better." I say, summoning a small diamond.

 

The hydra holds out a claw.
"That'll do for passage... I'd say that covers a few months."

"W-well... I'd rather you not let my behavior get to chief... please."
