Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Ali just lays there, waiting for the nurse to release her.

The library seems small, but the librarian's desk near the door is probably the place to start.

 

I go to the desk, looking around.

 

The janitor finishes cleaning up the mess, before leaving the room.

A long while later, a doctor comes into see Ali.

"How are you feeling, Ali? Anything troubling you with your head?" The doctor asks, smiling kindly.

 

It's not big, but it might have something.
"Can I help you?" The librarian asks.

"I'm fine."

 

"Do you mind if I check you over just to make sure you're healing properly?" The doctor asks.

 

"Yes, I was wondering if there's any books on the history of the ground around here, and how it's less... desolate."
I say, choosing my words.

 

"Sure."

"Ah, you don't need a book for that! We built our kingdom on the Ruin's Respite! Our king and queen make sure the inhibitor keeps the crap outside at bay."

 

The doctor takes off the bandages around Ali's head, checking her head over to make sure she's healing.

 

"Ruin's Respite? And 'the inhibitor'?"
I question.

 

Her fur hasn't grown back, but the wound is otherwise gone.

"Ruin's Respite is created by a machine called the inhibitor which stops the spread of the ruin from reaching us."

 

"You've been healing extremely well. You should be able to leave here tomorrow." The doctor says, smiling.

 

"Good. My legs have been numb for a day now..." She grumbles.

 

"What is Ruin's Respite?"
I ask curiously.

 

"I'm sorry to hear that. If you'd like, I can write you a notice to let you wander the palace. You'll still need to return here at night though." The doctor offers.

 

"This place, where the ruin of the poisoned planet is held off."

"Sure, I just can't walk..."

 

"You can't walk? Why is that?" The doctor asks, concerned.

 

"Ah, I see. What else can you tell me about the inhibitor?"

 

"Because my legs are numb."

"It's a machine kept in the throne room. It keeps our piece of this world the way it should be. The savage beasts on the outside want a part of it, but there's no reason that the cause of the problem should revel in the solution!"

 

"I'm sure moving them about a bit will help ease the numbness." The doctor says, smiling.

 

"Why are they the cause of the problem?"
