"No. You're isolated from your god and any rescue, and yet you're more resilient than your king. Why the hell would you serve a weaker being?"

Same four portals, two you've yet to go into.

"All they ever do is complain. That's all."

 

I go into one of the portals I havn't gone to yet.

 

"If you're not holding up your end of the deal, then I shall attempt to force you to give me the crystal again. I have done a lot for you already, and you've given me nothing in return. You're not sticking to the deal." The elite says.

 

"Actually, you're not holding up yours. You have produced zero satisfactory results. I have already proven I am willing to return the crystal."

You enter into a forest clearing, birds singing and a few bugs crawling about.

This world seems to be in much better shape than the others so far.

 

"One told me how this land is less dead, and informed me to go to the stronghold for more information."
I argue.

 

"Your inability to study me is not at your own fault. I have not resisted any studying, and I have let you do whatever you wish to me for the sake of study. And no, you haven't proven you're willing to return the crystal," The elite says, holding out her hand, "Prove it now."

 

The creature hands the elite the crystal, its power still dormant.
"The inability to study you is why you and he crystal will remain here, until that changes. You are completely different than the shadows we have already integrated; thus, you will not leave until you produce the acceptable results you have agreed to yield."

They pause.
"Who told you?" She asks, annoyed.

 

"Carrot farmer."

 

"No, about our land?"

 

Something strange seems to happen as the elite is handed the crystal. She takes a deep breath, her eyes widening to see the crystal in her hand, before the sound of her breath and appearance seems to distort, as if a graphical and audio glitch from a game.

 

"I looked outside, and I went inside the kingdom. The ground in here is less dead."

 

I fly around for a bit for any signs of civilization.

 

The creature tries studying the shadow while she has the crystal in hand.

There seem to be several cities in view as you ascend.

She pauses.
"I... yeah, true."

 

I fly towards the nearest one. When I am close enough, I land and walk the remaining distance as to not look suspicious.

 

The creature can't study the elite at all, it's like she's not even there.

A short moment later, the elite and crystal both disappear, as if they never existed in the first place. Like waking from a dream, the memories and stored data of the stealth elite and crystal just fade away, the most that the creature can remember is that there was a Shadow, and it possessed a crystal at some point for some reason, those memories too starting to fade away like a dream would.


There's a knock at the door to Ali's room in the medical ward.

 

"What do you learn in the school here?"
I ask, changing the subject.

 

You approach a swamp village, the people poor and run ragged but they manage to get by just fine.

"Hell if I know. Ask someone who actually goes to class."

"Do you never go to class?"
