"But maybe it does! Maybe they had like... information you needed to know, or something. How do you know that they don't matter?"

"Are you going to talk to him about it?"

 

"Erasure. That's the bargain. Sell your legacy for the power of a sun and moon. Nothing of them remain, except for the number of them, etched into the blades. Ignore them, and they claim their end of the bargain. Thus, I have lived solely to seek what they guide me to."

"No. He knows. He wouldn't have faced the Bicorns head on if he didn't know how to deal with their power."

 

"So, you sold yourself for power? Am I getting that right?"

"Then why were you shell-shocked by it? Clearly the guy has made some risks, if he's got something like that."

 

"Most put it that way. My perspective is that I sold myself for a purpose. Leaving a war but being recognizably related to it, I struggled to be accepted anywhere the Hive Master's name was known, especially for speaking to him directly. When I had stumbled across the blades by accident, I took up their pact immediately. For agelessness and their power, I would only live as long as I served them, and seeing as how nobody else would have me..." He cuts himself off, unable to find the words he wants.

"His power just makes me nervous. We've heard of a Shadow Aj and his Shadow Katana; word of its power and his cruelty and ruthlessness has spread far across the stars. Sivius, however, makes the rumors seem like a joke. He only uses one null-magic, but it's enough to have won him every duel against people who think they have an ace in the hole..."
The Cornae pauses.
"He's the only one my kind has ever heard of to be able to nullify chronomancy entirely."

 

"You took the first option that presented itself."
Crystal pushes, with a bit of a darker tone.

"Then, let's be glad he's with us, not against us."

 

"Exactly. Since then, no other options have come up."

"He'd remain neutral. Killing you is not on the blades' agenda, according to him."

 

"But, now you can't have another option, can you?"

"Then let's hope it's kept that way."

 

"Technically, I can. Whether I'll prefer it over this is questionable."

"With him, it's always about the blades. He says they're sentient and whisper to him, guide him. Everyone just shrugs it off, since in the past he's just waltzed into a black hole 'because they told him to.' Kinda stupid to follow something that blindly, if you ask me."

 

"But didn't you just say that you can only live if you served the blades?"

"They've clearly got something with them, that's for sure."

 

"They can make pacts as they please, and they can remove them as they please."

"Draconian legend states that the sun and moon of their homeworld collapsed into those blades. I have troubles believing that."

 

"And you just... let them control your life?"

"Considering a moon is a rock, I do too."

 

"Why not? I have nothing better to do."

The Cornae chuckles slightly before becoming silent again.

 

"Maybe give living your own life a try?"

"If you really are curious about his blade, though, you should ask him about it."

 

"Where?" Abigail asks, trying to look at her back while testing out her wings to make sure they still work properly.

 

"Are the psychopaths those who keep stabbing themselves?"

 

Sure enough, there's a gash down her back, but the cut is uneven, as if controlled to avoid cutting a blood vessel.
Her wings seem fine and the wound seems cauterized, but her shirt's torn and blood soaked.

"Yes." She sighs. "Unless you have a better word, I just call them psychopaths."

"I can't explain why. I just don't regret doing this."

"I don't think he'd want to dwell on it much. I don't need to know, so it isn't vital." The Cornae sighs.

 

"And what exactly do you do here?"

 

"Study them and use their blood. This is a haven for a hemomancer."

 

I jot down these words, nodding. "Thank for your time Miss..Uhm...I believe I have not your name."

 

"Then, I hope you're happy with the choice you made."
Crystal says, smiling.

"Do you want to say anything to him at all?"
