Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

She shakes her head.

The island is pretty much your standard tropical island, birds and such in the trees, though any kind of coconut or fruit-resemblant growth is absent.

She can sense a strong dark energy in the distance, but it's impossible to pinpoint where...

 

Shadow Stephanie seems rather attracted to the dark energy, deciding to fly in it's general direction.

 

"Alright. I'll be off, then. Crystal, you coming?"
Crystal takes a few moment to think.
"I think I'll stay here for a bit."
He decides, laying down.
"Okay. See you later."
I jump, jetting off towards the island.

 

As she seems to fly closer, her surroundings are distorted. It's impossible to tell which way to go to get closer, or even get away.

The island seems calm, Shadow Stephanie flying off into the distance as a few birds hover around you, the wildlife slightly curious about you.

 

I look around at the wildlife, seeing what might be different.

 

Shadow Stephanie looks around, slightly nervous, before flying in the same direction she was going before her surroundings got distorted.

 

The wildlife seems to be mostly non-carnivorous, thick foliage hiding many herbivores from avian predators.

She winds up finding herself looking back upon the island, turned around from the dark energy.

 

"Hey."
I say, making a general noise to see how, or if, they react.

 

Shadow Stephanie stops and thinks for a bit, before summoning two light yellow crystals. She drops one of the crystals on the ground below her, and a beam of light forms between the two crystals; burning through Shadow Stephanie's hand. Shadow Stephanie flies back toward the dark energy, using the beam as a point of reference to where she's going, turning away from it every time she gets turned around.

 

Her trail of darkness also seems to get distorted, Shadow Stephanie winding up making one big circle that her trail of darkness just rubs in.
However, she can tell where she went wrong; the trail seemed to bend in a u-shape a few hundred meters in, so if she can just ignore her visuals and keep going forward, she may be able to make it past this... whatever the hell it is.

One of the birds mimics your tone of voice.
"Hey." They respond.

 

Shadow Stephanie flies toward where she went wrong at the U bend, before dropping the crystal and flying straight.

 

Seems she made it to...
...a small village?
Whatever's in here must be nocturnal, seeing as it's completely silent, though life signatures are in every hut.

 

"Mimic."
I say, testing.

 

Shadow Stephanie turns herself invisible, before phasing through one of the doors to a hut and looking around inside.

 

"Mimic." They mock.

A small centaur family is sleeping inside, though the child seems to be having a bad dream.
Bows and javelins are mounted on the walls, along with a few buckets for water. There are also several bowls with salt or other local spices, along with a set of clay plates on a counter.

 

"I am a."
I make an unfinished sentence, continuing to test.

 

Shadow Stephanie silently observes the craftsmanship of the weaponry, curious.

 

"I am a." The bird mocks again.

The javelins seem to be obsidian tipped with grass tying the end to a long pole, appearing to be carved from a tree trunk. The bows seem to be branches wrapped with woven grasses with an odd, sticky spiderweb-like material.
Notably, the arrows (with bird feather fletchings) don't have a notch to nock them on the bowstring with.

 

I stop testing and continue to walk, exploring the island.

 

The bird follows as you go, saying "Hey," "Mimic," and "I am a" at random.

The foliage is thick and full of herbivores, and the trees seem absent of any kind of coconut or fruit resemblant growths.
