"Why must you doubt me? Artemis and I broke up, we both saw that our relationship was not working out. I already had my doubts, but after breaking up with Artemis, I knew for certain my love this entire time was for you!" I say, "To prove myself, Eve recorded most of our break up. She can show you what happened."

I put my hand out to the side, and Eve appears in it through a portal, before creating a large screen in front of her. It shows Eve's perspective a few days ago, getting orders to tell me about Xlentia's mental state. As she walks into the gaming room, she sees Artemis and I having a conversation.

"-And I just, I don't think this relationship is working out between us. You're a Shadow, you kill people for fun, and I'm a Forest Guardian. I'm meant to protect life from things like you!" Artemis says, "I just...I can't go on with this relationship anymore. I've tried to feel love for you, but...after everything we've been through, I just don't think we can work out."

"But...Artemis, what about all those times before? The adventures we went on, how you said you had a crush on me the whole time?" I ask, heartbroken.

"I-I think I had a crush on Aj, n-not you. I'm sorry, I-I just, I have to go. This is too much." Artemis says, tears running down her face as she runs past Eve.

"Artemis, wait! Ugh...god dammit!" I say, punching a pillow, frustrated with myself.

 

You lose a bit of her focus.
"Whatever. How do I know the armor blocks the Hive Bastard and you from any and all attempts to control me?" She asks.

 

Instead of a proper novel, would you ever consider making this into a webcomic or something like that?

 

If I had any art skills worth a damn (and a drawing tablet), I've considered it.

 

"The armour is specifically designed to diffuse and distort any attempts at mind magic. This does mean you won't be able to use telepathy, mind control or any other kinds of mind magic yourself, but if you let me possess you, you can still use them through me. The crystals designed to stop the mind control have been spell locked, meaning that they can only perform the magic that stops the mind control; they cannot be used to control you," I explain, "Though, knowing you, my darling and wonderful Xlentia, I included a lot of crystals that will boost your destructive powers and associated elemental powers. You have about twice the power you did before with the aid of this armour. Even the gods themselves should revere and respect you for who you truly are, a beautiful, strong immortal goddess!"

 

She seems pleased, her satisfaction rising fast.
"I'm glad that one of you has seen things my way. But... that means I'll want you to provide those means to use telepathy. Can you do that?" Xlentia asks.

"Good job, Aj." Emerald says. "If you can actually provide the shadows and guardians, you'll be done."

 

"Of course. I think it will be a very bonding experience for the both of us, we can be together constantly if I'm possessing you and granting you telepathy. If I'm not around, though, like I'm going out to organise something wonderful for the both of us, any Shadow or Forest Guardian should be able to grant you telepathy, " I say, "Though I don't think I'll ever need to organise something for the both of us, because merely being with you is the most wonderful experience of all."

"I can provide them, sure, but trying to get out of this hole of a relationship I've dug is going to be the real challenge." I respond.

 

I spin in her direction, using the flat of my blade as the weapon instead of the sharp end.

"Why's that?"

 

She hesitates.
"Maybe. Consider my wrath put on hold."

"Damnit, you shouldn't have kept going down that hole! You might be endangering Artemis with that!" Emerald says, freaking out as the bars disappear.

"Because I'm a botanist."

 

"A what-now?"

 

"Botanist. I work with plants."

 

Would I not know what I'd be getting into by taking it upon myself to draw it all?

 

You manage to hit Abigail in the side, knocking her over and causing her to land sideways in the sand.

"Put on hold? Is there something wrong?" I ask.

Instead of getting a response, Emerald simply gets my current thought process: "Shitshitshitshitshitshitshitshitshitshit!"

 

"Oohhh."
Pause.
"What's that got to do with you not liking fighting?"

 

You really wouldn't.
No summary or readthroughs would help much.

 

I step back.
"Keep going?"
I ask, a bit concerned.

 

"Yeah. I want to speak with Artemis in two minutes, or you get to try again." Xlentia says. "I'm counting."

"SAME!" Emerald shouts in your head.

"Fighting takes too much time."

 

"I...think I'm done," Abigail says, getting up, "Besides, I think Shadow Stephanie's back."

I turn to Eve in my hand, "Eve, would you kindly go get Artemis for me?" I ask.

Emerald manages to link into a telepathic conversation with Eve I'm having.

"Get Tenebrae, as soon as you can. Tell her that we need Gaia, one of her children is in extreme danger." I say telepathically at the same time I speak.

"I shall, Aj." Eve says, opening a portal and stepping through.

I smile kindly at Xlentia while I wait for Eve to return.

 

"Who's in danger?" Xlentia asks.

You feel Emerald's connection waiver a bit, presumably from nervousness.

 

"Oh, a few scouts I've sent into my city. You see, we've been hearing reports of new gangs rising up. I recently got a report of them smuggling Light Pulse Rifles, which are extremely dangerous weapons. You certainly do not want to be anywhere near one when it fires. If it turns out they have them, the entire scout group could be wiped out in an instant," I say, concerned, "I was just telepathically telling Eve to contact the generals to get the scout groups out of there. I didn't want to vocalise it, as it isn't relevant to our conversation."

Artemis steps through a portal onto my hand.

"Artemis-" I try to say.

"Shut up, Aj. Our relationship is over, I don't want to hear any more of your stupid excuses," Artemis says, clearly angry, before turning to Xlentia, "You wanted me, Xlentia?"
