Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Searched the hidden rooms. This place doesn't match up to what Stephanie's said, either. Haven't you seen their children? They're way too young for Stephanie to be a middle child between them." I say.

 

"Then let's move on, fast." Rineth says, the couple blinking out.

 

I disappear, heading back to the car and driving on to the next location.

Quite a few days pass as the group hunts for Stephanie, every mansion turning up blank, those denying entry hiding no secrets.

 

Linoa seems pissed.
"We're either too late or we need to start taking hostages." She groans.

 

"Too late?" Artemis asks.

 

"It's taken us a week!"

 

"She's probably being cared for. Maybe." I say, shrugging.

"We just have to keep searching. We'll find her eventually." Abigail says.

"Yeah, I have a good feeling about this next spot. Perfectly timed, too. They're having a masquerade party tonight. We should be able to get in without question with a change of clothes, and we'll be arriving just in time for the party to start." I say.

 

Linoa smirks.
"Hey. Sapphire's mask! Change it to her masquerade garb. It won't affect her much, plus the mask will then fit you!"

 

"I'd rather have my own mask." Abigail declines.

"Yeah, I have a few dresses and masks you could use, Abigail." I say happily.

"I have my own mask and dress." Artemis says, smiling.

 

Linoa nods.
"She'd be pissed anyways. Now, Rineth and I will keep outside and cloaked. If something goes wrong, you give us a signal and we get you out."
"Lin, they're the one making the plans."
"Oh, please. It's not a bad idea!"

 

"I don't think we need a retrieval team. These are humans. I'd rather have you with us to help investigate. You'll blend right in, I'm fairly certain some people will be dressing as animals." I say.

"You mean furries?" Abigail asks flatly.

"No, well...I don't know. I just know some people like to wear animal masks and stuff." I say, caught off guard.

"So furries." Abigail says flatly.

"Fine. Furries." I say, exhausted.

 

"Linoa, can you make your staff look like a broom?" Rineth asks, his weapon melting into his scales.
She taps it, and it looks like a human witch's broom.
"Now, how should we dress?" Linoa asks you, clearly looking forward to this.

 

"Dresses and suits with masks?" I suggest, shrugging.

 

Rineth groans, Linoa vanishing and reappearing in a pretty simple masquerade dress and common mask, a few jewels fixed in a snowflake-like pattern.

Rineth hesitates before doing the same, reappearing in a suit. He can't even bring himself to wear the mask that has a similar number of jewels fixed in a vortex-like pattern.

 

"It works," I say, shrugging, "We still have the journey there, so you might want to change back."

 

"Good." Rineth snaps, switching back in a blink.
Linoa seems amused, disappearing again before returning in her robe, grinning.
"Hon, we should dance again while we're there." She says, trying to be convincing.
"Lin, we're not there for the heck of it!" Rineth grumbles.

 

"Dancing will be the perfect time to investigate, actually. While everyone's attention is turned to dancing, we'll be able to explore the mansion without interruption." I say, winking at Rineth.

 

Rineth mutters under his breath as Linoa can't hide her smile.

 

"Better get moving then." I say, getting back in the car.

"Shotgun!" Abigail shouts, suddenly getting into the passenger side.

Artemis sighs, getting into the back of the car.

 

The couple just follows the car, cloaking.
