Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Abigail just stares at the letter for a bit, the letter causing her to recall the events she tried to forget over the past couple of days.

"Abigail, are you alright?" Artemis asks, concerned.

"Y-Yeah." Abigail says, though not sounding fully alright.

"Come on, let's go the the arcade." Artemis says, trying to cheer Abigail up.

"R-Right...I'll go, get some coins. T-To spend." Abigail says, heading back upstairs.

"I'm back." I announce, stepping through the portal into Abigail's living room.

 

Sgavrinn uses a vine to place a relaxing flower in Abigail's hair.

 

Abigail glances at Sgavrinn, smiling lightly, before going into her bedroom.

A long while later, Abigail comes back downstairs, a black backpack on her back; though the straps not covering the flame symbol on her shirt.

"Let's get going to the arcade." Abigail says, her tone sounding calmer.

Artemis and I leave the house, Abigail leaving last and locking the door behind her. The group heads up the staircase out of the volcano, Abigail's attention caught by the magma below.

 

Sgavrinn, nervous, puts distance between himself and the magma.

 

The magma seems rather low in the volcano, the staircase sturdy and big enough for two people to walk past each other with a gap between them.

Once the group gets to the top of the volcano, Abigail leads the way; heading down her volcano onto the volcanic plains nearby. There doesn't seem to be any signs of civilisation around, however.

"Shouldn't we get Sgavrinn to fly us there, Abigail?" Artemis asks.

"Oh, sure. That'll probably be easier." Abigail says passively.

 

Sgavrinn's still airborne. Probably a good idea to point out a good landing area.

 

Artemis calls Sgavrinn down to her, showing the ground she's standing on is safe.

 

He lands, hesitant.

 

The ground feels warm, though not hot. Artemis and Abigail climb onto Sgavrinn's back, while I decide to grow a pair of Shadow Wings instead.

"Aren't you going to ride on Sgavrinn's back?" Artemis asks, slightly confused.

"I'd rather get the exercise. Plus, it'll stop people from disturbing you guys on the flight there." I say happily.

 

Sgavrinn loads the group on his back and takes off.
"Directions?"

 

I fly up with Sgavrinn, trailing beside him.

"Sgavrinn needs directions again, Abigail." Artemis says chuckling.

"Oh, just fly west." Abigail says.

 

He flies as instructed.

A few minutes in, he slows, then frantically looks around.
"The air's weird here. I can't control my flight!" He panics.

 

"What do you mean?" Artemis asks, smelling the air; her senses naturally far greater and stronger than normal.

"Something's up with the air, Sgavrinn can't control his flight." Artemis says worriedly.

"Air guardians?" I ask, looking around for any signs of air guardians.

"I don't think ash in the air would be much of a problem, would it?" Abigail asks.

 

Sgavrinn flaps his wings to demonstrate, no altitude gained.

 

"The hell?" I ask, trying to fly up myself.

Abigail naturally reaches for her visor, before realising she left her armour at home. Artemis nocks an arrow, looking around for anyone nearby.

 

You can fly up just fine, but Sgavrinn seems to just be stuck at the suddenly lower speed, ever so slowly losing altitude.

There doesn't seem to be anyone nearby.

 

I decide to look on multiple layers of reality to both check for anyone invisible meddling with Sgavrinn, and any magic weighing him down.

 

You find a Sgavrinn-shaped distortion on a few planes of reality, but no magic or anyone else causing it.

 

I poke the distortion lightly with Shadow Katana, trying to avoid Sgavrinn in the process.

 

It doesn't work, and you scratch Sgavrinn's scale visibly.

He starts panicking, but whatever's ailing him also keeps him from plummeting.
