Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"O-Ok." Katie says, trusting.

 

"Here."
Linoa gets up and takes a handful of sand from the doorway.
It's as cold as the silt at the bottom of a riverbed.

The waitress returns.
"Here you go, miss. When you've decided what you want, let me know. Menu's above the counter." She says, sliding Katie a glass of water.

 

"Thank you." Katie says, the glass freezing in her hand as she drinks the water, looking toward the menu.

 

There's not much there. There's water, tea, and coffee under 'Beverages' and a sandwich column where you can choose between wheat, white, and 'desert grain' bread. Below that, there are a few basic condiments you can have included on the sandwich, including jam, lettuce, tomato, butter, and an 'out of stock' sign next to cheese.

 

Katie waits for a waiter or waitress to come over, before ordering a lettuce and tomato sandwich on desert grain bread.

 

The waitress disappears into the back, Linoa having ordered coffee.
"I'd talk to Aj about payment. They use gold leaf to trade with outsiders, but they have their own coin you can trade for at the bank. Fair note, they give you a small bag of extra coin on your first exchange."

 

"Oh no, I didn't bring any money!" Katie says, panicking.

 

"Don't worry, this one's on me. Besides, your coin system wouldn't work here. I can take you to the bank afterwards if you'd like." Linoa says, putting a gentle hand on Katie's shoulder.

 

"Thanks," Katie says, calming down, "I'd like that."

 

"Actually... you'd need to sell something to get currency. Maybe Artemis could make a few carvings for you guys to get coin?" Linoa asks.

The waitress slides the sandwich and Linoa's coffee to the table.
"Enjoy!"
"Thank you, Rit."

 

"Thanks!" Katie says happily, biting into the sandwich.

"Would never-mwelting ice coobs work?" Katie asks with food in her mouth.

 

"They wouldn't sell for as much as carvings, but that'd be enough to get started."

 

Katie smiles, before enjoying her sandwich.

 

After the duo finishes, Linoa waves over the waiter.
"Check, please."
"Sure! One moment."

Linoa turns back to Katie.
"Sorry about the fear factor. I get that new things are a bit scary, but the Anubi have to live underground to survive as it stands. They mean no harm, they just... have strange customs."

 

Katie nods understandingly, smiling happily.

 

The waitress brings over the check, and Linoa puts down seven sandstone coins on it before standing up.
"Bank next, or do you want to go back and wait until the sun sets a bit?"

 

"Bank?" Katie asks happily.

 

"Alright, uhm..."
Linoa pauses, then turns to the waitress.
"Hey, Rit, do you have a map?"
"Yeah, give me a minute. Where are you going to?"
"We're looking to get Miss Katie here a little bit of coin. She's spending some time on this world, so I figure she and her friends may need to spend a bit here at some point."
"Sure. Again, hold on a sec!" Rit says, disappearing into a back room.

 

Katie gets up, pushing her chair in after her and waiting with Linoa.

 

Rit comes back, a map with city hall and a bank circled.
"There you go. Take care, Lin!"
"You too!"

Lidnis heads to the entry, grabbing her staff.
"We go up the same way, but you tap the ceiling."
