"God of the Spectral Planes. Kind of an ass, but he's got his reasons."

 

"Then why'd you bring him up?"

 

"Physical bodies can die off, but the soul often proves to be ageless."

 

"So he's got in his word with the dead?"

 

"No, I fear he may be seeking to end himself." Xlentia mutters.

 

"Elaborate."
I suggest.

 

Xlentia pauses.
"You're back to talking about Rineth, I hope? Nysk never talks to the living if he can avoid it."

 

"We were talking about Nysk, then you used 'he', but if we're talking about Rineth now, we're talking about Rineth."
I say, confident.
"Anyways, elaborate on your thoughts."

 

"Sorry. Anyhow, Nysk only talks to the living under either of these conditions; they desire to join his ranks or they threaten his subjects. Only problem is, either way buys the living a one way ticket to his realm. I'd have to personally interrupt the affair to literally save Rineth's skin."

 

"I'd be saddened to know that he's actually thinking of joining Nysk's ranks. Did you see them talking?"

 

"They have yet to speak, but he thinks he has failed both Ihra and your group, and in his mind, leaving him no reason to remain in the realms of the living."

 

"Then talk to him about it. It shows compassion, and that someone cares for him. If he's not, though, the conversation ends up being a bit awkward."

 

"What do I tell him? I've been out of it for a couple hundred mortal generations!"
Xlentia pauses.
"Maybe get the group to tell him he's still wanted? Unless you're implying he isn't."

 

"He is, certainly. Do you just want me to do it or do you want me to walk you through it so you can do it yourself?"

 

"I am not part of your group... yet. Plus, I should probably see to it the visiting gods get back home unscathed."

 

"How very odd. I may need to visit them, just to see what they've done to keep themselves alive." Mortius says, slight concern in his voice.

"Nice to meet you too!" Gaia says with a friendly smile.

"Oh, yes, haha," Gaia laughs, "I forgot mortals don't call them by those names. Tiffany's real name is Tenebrae, she was kind of responsible for bringing me and Max here. Tenebrae's the Goddess of Darkness. Lex's real name is Lux, the God of Light, and Max's real name is Mortius, God of Death."

Gaia seems to overhear.

"I think I know who you're talking about. If you want, I could reunite you with her. I was asked to give her a second chance at life, and I'm making another body for her." Gaia says to Rineth telepathically.

 

Rineth is unresponsive, but he's not reaching out to Nysk either.

 

"I can sense what you're feeling. You shouldn't be so easy to want to give up your life. There's so many wonderful things to see and do, and a lot of people care for you." Gaia says sympathetically, her words calming.

 

"My life to them, not you..." Rineth responds, shaky.

 

I hand Mortius a sketch of the map of the palace grounds.
"Here's a map to get to the laboratory."
