Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Onyx decides to head to the shore to collect some food for dinner, having already got herself wet. Onyx takes a running dive into the ocean, swimming around and biting at fish with her sharp teeth, hoping to kill them so she can collect them; any she kills she detaches from her teeth and holds onto. Onyx's head can often be seen poking up from out of the water, taking a breath of air before diving back under to try and catch more fish.

 

Advancing, I thrust, then jump back a bit, resulting in a short jab going into a retreat.

 

The beast seems to notice, mechanically laughing as Onyx only gets tiny bits of fins.

In one dive, he deposits ten fish on the shoreline.

He parries slightly, making you jump back a bit more to the left than expected.

 

With a bit less accuracy and a bit more speed, I make a quick left-to-right upwards strike, jumping back due to openness once I finish.

 

He slides backwards, making the swing go wide.
"Against a light weapon you'd already be dead. Fewer openings, period! War is often a test to see who makes the worst mistakes, not who is the better fighting force." Kyle barks, throwing a kunai in such a way it bounces off harmlessly off you, but still leaves a small dent.
"Your friend made the same mistake; making the first move. Actions may force reactions, but every movement opens a vulnerability. You're looking for a point where your line matches up with a vulnerable spot, then you capitalize. The best duelists can track their lines and their opponent's lines at the same time."

 

I re-focus onto Kyle.
There's no specific indication that I took in what he said other than the fact that I appear to be taking it in.

 

His next move is practically asking you if you did take it in, him coming at you with a lunging slash.

 

I deflect it with my blade, forcing him to swing wide, and keeping his blade away with mine, I attempt to grab him and force him into a head bash.

 

He laughs, a blade held by his tail cleaving you in t-t...w

Kyle laughs, offering you a hand up, dome now down.
"Not bad. Not bad at all!" He says. "You'll do fine! Now, you just gotta be quicker about figuring out where absolutely any and every weapon could be hidden or stored. Surprises are... well... sorry about that one."

 

"...Yeah."
I seems to still be recovering a bit, but I soon seem to get back to it quick.
"Everywhere. What the hell did you hit me with?"
I say, taking the hand and getting up.

 

He holds up his tail. Seems his armor down there is shaped to act as a blade.
"This is a common feature on battle armor. For when you're disarmed but yet to be delimbed."

 

Onyx nervously approaches the fish pile, timidly looking up at the beast in a silent 'For me?'

 

"Well, obviously it's useful."

 

It nods, turning and letting out a jet of flame over what seems to be a campfire.

"Doesn't make it any less dirty, sorry about that." He sighs.
"You want to have a duel to see how many dirty tricks you can fend off, or do you have places to be?"

 

"Well, I don't really know when I'm going, so the former works for now."
I pick up my broadsword, presuming I dropped it having being dead and all.

 

"You've seen my loadout. I won't go all-out from the start, but I'll be impressed if you can block the kunai." He says, signaling as the dome reforms.
"We'll start on your mark."

 

"Then start when I look ready and slowly advance."
I say, giving him a cue, and stepping back a bit to focus.

 

He nods, drawing his broadsword and stowing his other weapons.

 

Facing Kyle, I take about fifteen seconds to prepare, looking at Kyle and adjusting my sword, before slowly advancing.

 

He readies his blade, tail dragging awkwardly along the ground.
