"Because if you do it's easier to push the sword away and as a result leaves one hell of an opening?"
I answer logically.

 

"Heh... honestly glad that's over with. Told Abigail I wasn't nervous, but that was a blatant lie."

"No, because that's how you break your weapon." Kyle laughs.

 

"Well, the hard parts over now. Just sit back and enjoy the show." I say happily.

There's a loud explosion, then a crackle. Various fireworks explode in the sky, visible under the dim daylight of the sun. The masses' attention it turned to the fireworks display going on over the city.

 

Alice does, watching the fireworks.
...falling asleep in an awkward place. Kinda reminds you of Ihra...

 

I smile, lifting Alice onto a row of chairs to make a faux-bed.

Once the ceremony ends, Alice is picked up and taken inside the palace; put back in her bed in her home...


A black cat paws at some of the gold coins in Xlentia's gold pile curiously, knocking them around and causing small landfalls of gold.

 

Xlentia seems to wake up at an inconvenient time.
"Huh? Wh-HEY! HANDS OFF, MORTAL!"

 

The cat looks up at Xlentia, then back at the coins it was pawing at, before looking at Xlentia while pushing some coins down the pile.

 

Xlentia seems furious, then laughs.
"EMERALD!"
Emerald teleports in.
"Yes, mistress?"
"What the hell is this?" She asks, claw pointing to the cat.
"That's... a catfolk in cat form."
"What?"
"It's a cat."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"It can't do anything to bother you. They're usually pets, but this one smells of shadows."

 

The cat seems to freeze up after hearing Emerald speak, before running off the gold pile and toward the exit.

 

Xlentia just watches it run.
"Why is it here?"
"Probably just wandered through a portal. Cats come and go on their own terms."
"Should I have you follow it?"
"I mean, it's pointless right now, and I'm busy, but I could have one of the scribes look after her."
"Just keep the thing off my gold." Xlentia sighs.

Back in the library, Emerald approaches a shadow scribe.
"There's a cat in here mistress wants you to monitor. Don't ask me why." She sighs.

 

There's a slight shine in the cats mouth as it runs, and it seems to have picked up a gold coin. The cat dashes out of Xlentia's chambers, not turning back.


"Oh, really? Is it causing a problem?" The Shadow asks, looking around the library for any signs of a cat.

 

"Xlentia wants her gold coin back from the cat but doesn't want to smash it." Emerald sighs. "It just ran out of Xlentia's chambers. It doesn't have a ring, so it's not getting far anytime soon."


The cat finds itself faced with an utterly collosal hallway.

 

"Alright, I'll go catch it then." The Shadow says, teleporting away.


The cat looks around worriedly, looking for any small holes or air vents it could squeeze through.

 

There isn't anything small. Everything makes the cat feel like a scale size speck of dust.

 

The cat decides to run forward, hopefully finding somewhere to turn.

"Gotcha!" The Shadow says, grabbing the cat and picking it up off the ground. The cat hisses, swiping at the Shadow and dropping the gold coin in the process. The Shadow catches the coin before teleporting back to Emerald.

"I've retrieved the cat and the coin, Emerald." The Shadow says, holding up both to Emerald. The cat has a red collar around its neck, nametag attached to it. It also doesn't seem very happy with the current situation.

 

"Cat, never touch mistress Xlentia's gold. She doesn't appreciate it." Emerald sighs.
"Now, either you go home and nobody knows, or try to steal again and everyone knows your secret." She tells the cat telepathically. "...Onyx."

 

Onyx hisses at Emerald, trying to scratch her with her claws.

"Whoa, calm down there kitty!" The Shadow says, holding Onyx away from Emerald.

 

"Don't mess with us. I can force you to transform. Right here, right now."

"She'll have more problems if she actually scratches me. She's just not happy being caught."

 

The Shadow looks at Onyx's name tag.

"Huh? What's the palace cat doing here?" The Shadow asks, confused, holding back an angry Onyx from Emerald, her scratching calming down slightly.

 

"Palace cat?" Emerald asks, unsure. "That'd explain why she smells of shadows."
