Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Have a good day, Alice." The guard says, bowing before leaving.

 

"You too!"
Judging by the time, Alice starts getting ready for bed. Again.

 

Alice finds no trouble getting ready for bed, and her bed looks and feels even softer than it did before, strangely.

 

She looks around for anyone who may have messed with it, but then goes to sleep anyways.

 

There's nobody at all, the only person in her house is herself.

Alice has a restful sleep as the day ends and the next begins.

 

She does her usual morning routine and then heads off where she was told to start her job.

 

Once Alice arrives in the detective's offices, she's greeted by a Shadow who appears to be the head detective.

"Ah, Alice, the new detective. The king informed me about you, put you on one of our cases already too. Come, let me show you around our offices and where you'll be working." The head detective says happily, ushering Alice forward.

The detective's offices appear to be rather large, split into medium-sized rooms for each detective. Computers and printers are scattered about the office, as well as a few water coolers.

"These are the detectives own private offices, where they get to work on their cases and gather their information. The computers and printers here are free to use to research information, and office work hours are from 10am to 4pm, since you'll most likely be out working on your case. I'll be the one to assign you cases to work on, and I'll provide you with some basic tools every detective needs for your first. You must remember our job is to stay fairly well hidden and gather information, the fighting is left to the army." The head detective explains officially, walking through the offices before arriving at one marked 'Alice'.

"This is your office, Alice. I'll let you get familiarised with it. Come to my office just down here when you're ready for your first case." The head detective says, opening Alice's door for her and holding out a keycard.

 

"I'll be out in a minute." Alice says, taking the keycard.

Minutes later, Alice shows up at the head detective's office.

 

"Ah, Alice, ready for your case?" The head detective asks, "Take a seat."

There's a pair of chairs in the head detective's office, one of them occupied by an earth guardian.

 

"I think so." She says eagerly.

 

"Alright then. Hannah here works at one of the mining quarries just outside the kingdom. There's been reports of gems and ore going missing recently, in rather large amounts. Rumours say there are a few members of the mining quarry who are working with gangs to get them the ores for weapons and such. I need you to work with Hannah to find out if these are true, and where the missing ores and gems are going. You'll need to empower her since access to the quarry is limited. Take over control if you have to in order to gather information," The head detective explains, the earth guardian next to Alice presumably Hannah, "There's 200 diamond riding on this case. You'll get a cut if you can figure it out. Now, empower Hannah and get moving."

 

Alice tries, but... fails.
"Wait... why can't I... the hell?" Alice mumbles, confused. "Aren't I a shadow? I look like one, live like one, am hurt by light, and have a body of darkness...
...What the hell is going on?!" She utters, panicked.

 

"What's the matter? Just empower her already and get moving." The head detective says, inpatient.

"Do you not know how to empower people...?" Hannah asks, confused.

 

Alice tries again, but ends up disappearing into the head detective's body.
"WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?!" She thinks, panicking, not trying to override the head detective.

 

"The hell!? What the blazes do you think you're doing!?" The head detective asks, dissipating and reforming, leaving Alice outside his body.

 

"Trying to empower Hannah! T-the hell is... wait... that means... but..." Alice stammers, looking like someone who lost their identity.

 

"Enough of this tomfoolery before I report you to the king himself! Empower Hannah and get solving this case before your cut of the reward money goes any lower! Good lord..."

 

"I... I can't... j-just report me..." Alice sighs, looking depressed.

 

"What do you mean you can't? You're a Shadow, aren't you?" The head detective says, fed up.

 

"I... I thought I was, but I can't empower Hannah... but I can you..." Alice utters, verge of tears.
"What the hell am I...?"
