"Don't be like that." She attempts to telepathically say, while reaching her mind out to freeze him in place. "How long. Have I. Been. Unconscious."

 

Door's already open.
"Sorry about that. The scribes all disappeared, so I had to go make sure they were okay. You good?"

"It's essentially another giant room with weapons, dummies, and holographic simulations. Complete with chronoreversible arenas where you can fight to the death, rewind, and continue on with life. Let's you go all-out without hesitation!"

You're too weak to freeze him, but he comes back.
"Months. Now, try not to move too much, girl. I don't have anything to stitch up the bite marks in you, so just go back to sleep for a bit."

 

"Oooo!"
Crystal says, intrigued, and jumping off me and taking the form of a large cat, racing a bit ahead.
"Must take a lot of magic, no?"
I ask Kyle.

 

"Your group, thankfully, left it alone. Yes, there are mages whose only duty is to ensure that combatants in chronoshifted arenas stay safe. Sparring only gets you so far; true strength lies in desperation."
Kyle says, opening a hidden door.
"Upstairs, you can borrow any weapon. We have most elemental variants that are available, plus sometimes Commander Emerald herself comes down to test the potential of the weapons brought to the Archives."

 

"Where do you get all the weapons?"
I ask, while Crystal already looks for the upstairs passageway and going to the weapons room.

 

"We make them or we fix them up from bodies." Kyle says.

There's a big obvious staircase going up.

 

Crystal, turning back into a human for easier stair reasons, goes up the stairs swiftly.

"I'll be interested to see what you've got, then."

 

"Better not have placed any bets!" Kyle laughs.

 

"Well, I did place a bet that I couldn't count how many you have."
I smile, joking.

 

Kyle lets out another single laugh.
"I wouldn't want to try that one!"

 

"Do you even have an estimate of how many weapons you have?"
I say, seriously.

 

"I personally only have an estimate for how many weapons I've used - roughly 200."

 

"M-months?" The connection immediately cuts out, and Elyra appears to have fainted.

 

"Makes something as simple as a broadsword seem obsolete, but I like mine."
I say, drawing the aforementioned amethyst broadsword.

 

"Hey, we all have those. I've kept my grandfather's dagger for comparable reasons. Duller than my wit after a night at a bar, but I know how it is." Kyle chuckles.

Later, you slowly wake again.
"Damnit, I was hoping you'd be down longer. I just went to go get stuff to stitch you up, girl. Seriously, don't move too much. You're gonna be sore for a long while if you do."

 

Elyra's gaze reverts to glare again, and a warning is clear enough, though she stays stiff.

 

I chuckle as well.
"Do you have a weapon that you normally use? I'd imagine that you don't use a dull weapon in battle."
I ask.

Crystal looks around upstairs.

 

The man puts some supplies down.
"Look, if you're going to keep acting like I'm the devil, you're free to just leave. You get to trust me, or you have to hope you don't fall hard enough to pull your arm the rest of the way apart." He sighs, nervous. "I have a little more anesthetic, but that's it. You want it for this part, or no?"

Kyle pulls out a mace, cracking with electricity.
"Not quite!" He laughs.

There are two utterly massive weapon racks - every weapon imaginable and them some available for practicing with.

 

"Looks nice."
I smile, complementing the weapon.
"Must be irritating to anyone with armor."

Crystal immediately goes for the nearest spear, holding it.

 

"I'm dead..." Stephanie says, taking the question literally.
