Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"...how?"


Emerald seems to be waiting in Xlentia's chambers.

"Commander Emerald. Nice to meet you, Cecil."

 

"Nice to meet you too."

 

The scientists look at each other awkwardly.

"If you've lost your natural ability to breathe, then you may need to be fitted with a permanent auto-breather." The scientist says.

"Do you not know how to do this?" The other scientist asks, clearly demonstrating how to breathe by taking a large breath in, then exhaling, and repeating the process for the sake of the demonstration.

The first scientist gives the second scientist a flat look, and she simply shrugs, confused on what else she could've done.


After a long while, by the time most of the Shadows have left the chambers, the group of two hundred Shadows and Guardians step through two of the portals, walking over to Emerald once they see her.

"We've been sent here as part of an agreement by the Shadow King, two hundred scribes to help translate over five thousand languages. Do you know whom we're meant to be working with?" A water guardian asks politely.

 

Emerald seems distracted.

Sapphire can't figure it out.


"Me. I am the head librarian and archivist. You will be busy, but you will only work 6-8 hour shifts. The rest of your time is yours to explore our grand library - I guarantee you it puts any you've seen before to shame. Are you all ready?"

 

"What's going on? If you don't mind me prying."

 

"Aj owes me scribes."

 

"Good luck with that."

"Unconscious does not necessarily mean the battle is won. Notice how Ihra had a look of panic upon her face before disappearing, as if she thought the battle was lost." I say, taking down notes in my journal as I land.

 

"He destroyed several thousand books. He owes me." Emerald says bluntly.

"The battle is won. I can sense it."

 

"Intuition is the first step to destruction." I say, "I'm just warning you, that the battle didn't seem to look right."

 

"I kinda agree with you. This battle was pretty quick, and Xlentia was supposed to be pretty freakin deadly."

 

"She was. The Shadows were hit pretty hard, and I have reason to believe Stephanie is currently under a gold pile—dead."

 

"Perhaps we could get a Shadow to teach her? Being stuck with an autobreather has it's...limits." The scientist says to the other scientist.

"Wouldn't they be able to transfer their knowledge of breathing with it? So they could bring back the natural urge and teach her how to use it?" The other scientist replies.

"Brilliant idea, Joanne." The first scientist says, clicking his fingers, before leaving.

"Don't worry, this won't hurt at all. You'll just feel a bit...stronger for a while." The second scientist, presumable Joanne says calmly with a smile.


The general reply is 'Yes'.

"Is food provided?" One of the fire guardians pipes up.

 

"I'm still surprised that most of the party is still alive."

 

"We've won, mate." A passing Shadow says, heading to the now-closing exit portals.

 

"It wasn't supposed to look like a kill."

"She was thoroughly distracted."

Sapphire looks at them, panicked.
"I-I don't want one to take over my body..."


"Food, bunks, and the like are provided. Pardon any passing creature - The Void is home to exhiled creatures from... just about everywhere."

 

"That's obvious."

 

"But it wasn't supposed to look like that either, I bet." I say.

"Well, I had no part In the matter, so I congratulate you on your victory."

 

"How so?"

 

"You'll remain in full control of your body the entire time. If anything, you're kind of taking over theirs." Joanne says, chuckling.

The first scientist returns through the metal door, a Shadow scientist following, his white labcoat contrasting his black skin.

"So I've only got to transfer my knowledge of the simple act of breathing to her, and demonstrate it from within?" The Shadow scientist asks.

"That is the intention. Are you ready, Sapphire? We don't have to begin if you're not." The first scientist asks.


There's a positive commotion amongst the group, and they seem ready to get to work.
