"The h-horde was too much, but I... um... Xlentia herself t-told me I needed to... call them in o-or she'd... she'd... urgh..."

 

"She'd what?" I ask, interrupting, curious yet invisible.

 

"Alter her sigil to stop targeting Ihra and erase me..." She utters, terrified.
"I... I'm just going..." She seems to camouflage into the teeth of the construct.

 

"Eh, I'll kill her anyway. You don't have to worry about a thing," I say, "Oh, small question before you go, do dragon forms like Xlentia have soft underbellies?"

 

"I didn't go anywhere." She utters.

Milla responds for her.
"She has a gash on her underbelly, but that's as close as you'll get to soft."

 

"Looks like that's my way in, then. With the derailing of plans with the sapping of powers by commanders, I guess we'll be skipping phase one and moving straight on to operation stop the heart stop the beast." I say.

"Is Ihra alright with that? Wasn't she opposed to it?" Aqui asks, butting in.

I shrug, "At this point it's kill or be killed."

 

"D-don't you need her power to fight the gatekeeper?" Sapphire asks quietly.

 

"Gatekeeper?" I ask, befuddled.

 

I seem curious.

 

I reappear once again.
"Apologies for the intrusive question, but is there a chance that Xlentia will recognize my neutrality?"

"Oh... I guess you don't need to worry about it, then..."

Milla responds.
"Doubtful. If she doesn't invite you in, she doesn't see you as neutral. Think of it like someone barging in your throne room out of the blue."

"N-never mind..."

 

"Who, or what, is the gatekeeper?" I ask.

 

"Did n-nobody ever tell you about the legend of the g-gatekeeper?"

 

"I have a feeling that the gatekeeper have tentacles." Cecil said jokingly.

 

"Sounds dumb. Do we have to kill it before it kills us? Another enemy to add to the hit list?" I ask.

 

"No, t-that'd be Xlentia..."

"N-no... it's unkillable, unerasable."

 

"Unkillable how?"

 

"So why the fuck bother it? We had something like that until Xlentia erased it. It could only be killed with this kind of blade," I say, showing Shadow Katana, "Let sleeping dogs lie, as they say."
