    I suggest removing the ":1" from the ip you posted. I doubt you have the server on port 1 and if you do, you should probably change it to 25565 or something around there.

    It has nothing to do with choosing your port. It is just bad practice (for a number of reasons) to choose anything below port 1024 for something like a game server, and generally you want to at least keep it in the range of the default port (which for minecraft is 25565).
