tl;dr: two explosions in manchester arena, ~20 dead, ~50 injured, possible terrorist attack

    reddit live thread: https://www.reddit.com/live/yz4k8674h837

    what I'm gathering from this:
    1) there were two explosions in Manchester Arena during a concert
    2) possible causes: terrorist attack, some sources said it was a speaker blowing up
    3) a bunch of people are dead/injured and stuff (19 confirmed fatalities and 50 injuries as of writing this)

Well this must be pretty fucking terrifying for people in the area. If you live near the arena, or if you were there during the explosion, my heart goes out to you. Nobody should live in fear like this

Also, fuck whoever set off the explosives. You're literal human garbage

    From my opinion:

    *puts on tinfoil hat*

The god damn war on terror created mass survalence in the world, instead of focusing down on actual criminals and terrorist, such as most terrorist in Europe. So instead of treating those that are criminals or terrorist, we decided to spread to spy on the public, hiding the criminals in a flood of public activity. There have barely, if no reports on mass survalence helping us out, its just finding a needle in a haystack, but adding even more hay. Mass survalence has instead arrested the innocent and let terrorist free, such as possibly the Paris attacks, and this attack. Because of mass survalence, we cant arrest terrorist or criminals since the government thinks that we're all suspected on something, so the government is spying on us and not focusing on the criminals.

Therefore, mass survalence has instead made terrorism more common, since the government is focusing more on the public and not the terrorist.

Therefore, if this was a terrorist attack, this could have been prevented if the government focused more on the suspected or active terrorist, instead of ruining our 4th amendment rights by stalking us without a a judges or our permission.

Who cares. Go ahead, shoot me, but this front of caring that everyone puts on is so silly. Innocent civilians die everyday in such war zones as Iraq and Syria, often to the hands of such developed nations as the UK, the USA and Russia due to supposedly accidental airstrikes, but we care not for them. It's only when we are hit hard in our developed nations that we mourn, who cares for the 200 dead civillians in Mosul due to US airstrikes, when a shocking 5 people died due to a terrorist attack on Parliament on London. People are cold like that, it's fine if 200 brown people die, because we never knew them and would never know them, but 5 fellow white people in the UK, oh God forbid! That's much too close for comfort! Because we might be hurt, think of that, us, in our developed nations might just be hurt by this radical Islam, absolutely outrageous! But innocent people dying over in Iraq? That's just business as usual.

It's shit like this that causes radicalization, the media and everyone making such a big fuss over these terrorist attacks, like #prayforparis, you won't be seeing #prayformosul anytime soon. People see their nation just ignoring the deaths of innocent people, maybe if they're an immigrant the deaths of their people! But nobody cares for the immigrant's people, so why should the immigrant care for this nations people? People are just giving ISIS the reaction they want.

So come on folks, lets repeat the steps we do all the time, just post a couple of sad face emojis, and post a hashtag along with it that reads #prayfor*insertwhitecountryhere* . But don't post #prayfor*insertbrowncountryhere*, because that's just not trendy. Don't care at all or care for them all, this halfway act does nothing but make it worse.

lold at that reddit live thread, "horrific incident", jesus christ, bombing in white country - coverage fucking everywhere looking for every single detail, bombing in brown country (likely by white country) - maybe one post with no further discussion

Most that have been stopped are likely to have already been suspected as terrorist or criminals already

While I agree with you, you're missing one factor.

History and current bilateral relations. Countries that have been attacked while also posing as an important ally/trade partner/historical significance to a majority of other well-known nations tend to receive help and condolences the most. To put it simply, countries that are deemed "significant" will be put on the bigger scope of the media while countries that are "insignificant" are generally less focused on. For example, let's say we have a bombing in St. Vincent and the Grenadines which leaves 25 dead and 60 injured. Feel free to ask around if anyone would post about the situation or check to see how much coverage the media offers about the incident. Then let's say we have an freak accident in San Francisco where a bus drives through a pedestrian walkway, killing 5 and injuring 10. Do the same aforementioned and you should see it popping up everywhere through your feed. A terrorist attack, no matter the scale, when happens in a significant country will generate the most light and attention, simply due to the others seeing it as an "obligation" to send regards to their "close friends" and the victims alike. Heck, I'm very sure there are some who don't even know what or where St. Vincent and the Grenadines is. This is why you see #prayforparis #prayforbelgium #prayforlondon much, much more than praying for 200 random insignificant Syrian civilians/refugees.

TL;DR Well-known countries with a major role in global/regional economic/historical/military partnerships with other well-known nations get more media coverage when attacked.

I largely blame sensationalist media. People die in warzones all the time, and the news dries up after a while, because there isn't really anything new to add. But an attack in somewhere where these things are rare, and it becomes newsworthy.

It's also to do with praying on fears. Even if a small number of people die, the media can easily convince us that the entire developed world is in danger, and this brings in attention. It's exactly the reaction terrorists want as well. If their voters are worried enough, governments can do stupid things to calm everyone down, which sometimes works out in the terrorists' favour. The truth is they have no real power in the West, and can only make it seem as though they're a threat by carrying out small operations and hoping people freak out the right way. If they were actually a threat, they wouldn't be killing a few civilians every few months and leaving it at that. It also serves the purpose of distracting us - we devote enormous amounts of time and money into ineffective solutions to a small problem, while other much larger problems are only occasionally talked about, because nobody at home is afraid of them.

This is why... just bomb ISIS. Think. Is the amount of pepole in ISIS greater than the Number of pepole they have killed and ruined lives for and the ones they will kill and ruin lives of? Becides, they are too mad to be thought of as a "normal human that can be saved" . They will literally kill themselves to hurt pepole. At this point this conflict has started a bizillon operations to stop it and made hundreds of millons, perhaps billons, of euros of damage. Countless lives lost or ruined. I will say this: this needs to end. NOW.

I don't know if you're trolling or just oblivious to the reality of the Middle Eastern situation.
ISIS isn't a simple entity with a base and all its people just hanging around, for fuck's sake, it's an ideology that is supported by integrists all over the world, some being bred in your country's prisons as we speak.

Let's assume we just BOMB the middle east.
You really think nuking civilians alongside cunts won't breed more terrorism and make you become the thing you loathe ?

At least try to be rationnal, christ.

14 year olds.... they targeted 14 year olds...

Those children would live if someone could put their morals aside and close their borders...
This has nothing to do with skin color. Why dont we Ban countries where terrorism comes from instead of posting sad face emojis ?

Suicide bombers can easily refuge in a country. The only way the secure innocents is closing borders to isis supporting countries.

The death of those innocents could be prevented if they didnt prioritize their morals.

The suicide bomber was a UK citizen born and raised in Manchester, from Lybian parents who sought asylum from the Gaddafi

@Zacmo was trying to play the race card with this whole hashtag thing; the factor isn't race but most likely proximity : You're more likely to identify and react to something that happens in your country or one that shares its value than some middle eastern warzone that is barely ressembling what you see in real life.

Prevented how ? I'm not saying this is an immuable fact of life that beheadings will happen, but how do you suppose we prevent these kinds of attacks ?

    They targeted gamers.

    Gamers.

We're a group of people who will sit for hours, days, even weeks on end performing some of the hardest, most mentally demanding tasks. Over, and over, and over all for nothing more than a little digital token saying we did.

We'll punish our selfs doing things others would consider torture, because we think it's fun.

We'll spend most if not all of our free time min maxing the stats of a fictional character all to draw out a single extra point of damage per second.

Many of us have made careers out of doing just these things: slogging through the grind, all day, the same quests over and over, hundreds of times to the point where we know evety little detail such that some have attained such gamer nirvana that they can literally play these games blindfolded.

Do these people have any idea how many controllers have been smashed, systems over heated, disks and carts destroyed 8n frustration? All to latter be referred to as bragging rights?

These people honestly think this is a battle they can win? They take our media? We're already building a new one without them. They take our devs? Gamers aren't shy about throwing their money else where, or even making the games our selves. They think calling us racist, mysoginistic, rape apologists is going to change us? We've been called worse things by prepubescent 10 year olds with a shitty head set. They picked a fight against a group that's already grown desensitized to their strategies and methods. Who enjoy the battle of attrition they've threatened us with. Who take it as a challange when they tell us we no longer matter. Our obsession with proving we can after being told we can't is so deeply ingrained from years of dealing with big brothers/sisters and friends laughing at how pathetic we used to be that proving you people wrong has become a very real need; a honed reflex.

Gamers are competative, hard core, by nature. We love a challange. The worst thing you did in all of this was to challange us. You're not special, you're not original, you're not the first; this is just another boss fight.
