“Of course. While we’re there, I’d like to know of anything I can do to make myself useful over the next few days.”

Mikos follows him and the kid to the living room.

Would Mikos remember what chess or checkers is? If so, is it still relevant for his time or is it a more antiquated game?

 

mm okay well

The stealth squad arrives at Pire Town. It's a big city with a lot of skyscrapers and there's an active volcano in the background. The amount of cluster strikes that were brought may not be enough to destroy the whole city but they will cause some major damage. The city seems to be divided in three major parts: residential area, main city (skyscrapers), and a smaller area with a bunch of green areas and small stores. There doesn't appear to be any 'standing army' ready to defend the city.

Well... what now?

The kid doesn't really know how to respond so he stays silent. The man says, "The world is unfair... But I think I have a plan to take down Stacked Deck."

It's interesting how a guy who doesn't have to be involved with Stacked Deck is wanting to take action against them. But it's also kind of stupid that he's telling his plan to you, when the two of you don't know each other yet.

I think both games would become irrelevant as both chess and checkers are technically puzzles. At some point in time, either a perfect winning solution will be found for both games or it will be deemed that with perfect play, they should always be drawable (like tic tac toe). Checkers is already kind of irrelevant nowdays and Chess itself has engines that are finding the best moves possible in complicated positions. Chess still has a massive future ahead of it but at some point, a solution will be found for it. Mikos would probably remember it as an old board game that used to be popular but no one plays anymore because the solution was found. He probably doesn't know the solution or rules by memory but due to being advanced, he could probably figure out most of the rules of chess and checkers by watching. Not sure if he'd figure out any of the basic concepts but yeah.

Basically, I think Mikos would recall chess as a faint memory but not know how to play but you can decide.

Mikos goes back into the living room and the man says, "There isn't really much to do in the house right now, it's the weekend and I've already cleaned most of it." That statement is true. The house is honestly probably as clean as it gets right now. There's also no dishes to be washed. Makes sense since this is a small family. Mikos wonders where the wife is though.

Aliruja (the father) has the black pieces and Fireza (the kid) has the white kids. They play a couple moves before the kid asks to Mikos, "Sir, do you know how to play chess?" (I guess whether or not Mikos knows how to play is up to you. It's not going to matter too much).

 

First off I only brought one secondly Its not for this town, it is for the detinu city.
On the out skirts of town the Group fires the strike at the Detinu city then flees town as fast as they can.

The goal: start a war between the 2 cities then once they are both weakened swoop in take both cities gain notinburg and the release the 2 citys. I expect set backs however, but I am Barely prepared

 

Well the thing is, there's no major city near Pire Town that's in Detinu Provinces.

You could fire the cluster strike at a rural mountain city but that's the closest I got. Notingburg is also far far away on the coast of Detinu Provinces.

 

Oh... Then I will launch the strike at notingburg.

Mm you'll launch the cluster strike at Notingburg from Pire Town? Or from Midas's forces outside Notingburg? I know you said Midas retreated but Midas doesn't really have a home right now since it was supposed to be Notingburg.

 

"Why are you telling me this? No offense, but we just met and for all you know i could be working for them"

 

The man considers for a bit. "Honestly, I don't know. Seeing this kid here, it's made me a little angry. I'm an energetic guy so I don't think before I speak. I just want to get rid of Stacked Deck as fast as possible. My name is Hikof, by the way. Do you want to hear my plan now?"

A bit of a weirdo but whatever.

What now?

 

"Sure, no harm in it. I'm Laurance by the way."

 

From pire town at notingburg

 

That's a landmine I'm not quite ready to step on yet, though I have a slight idea... Besides, it's a bit rude to ask about a man's familial situation just minutes after meeting him, so Mikos will refrain from bringing that up.

"It's been a while since I've last seen someone play a game, so it might take a while for me to remember the rules. I'm impressed that you actually know the rules to such an archaic game kid."

Mikos will note down the movements, make some theories as to how it works, ask about specific movements every now and then. Essentially trying to rebuild the concept of chess from what he's seeing.

 

"Okay!" the man projects cheerfully. "So Stacked Deck has control over most of the gangs and the local government, right? Apparently on the main island (Strobus, Krenad), a gang called The House is control of most of the gangs and government there! But look at the names of the gangs. The House literally means "the house" in like, casinos! Stacked Deck refers to a deck of cards! What if... they are the same gang? The only reason why the government won't take care of The House and Stacked Deck is because they're powerful enough to take a lot of resources and money to deal with but they are small enough to not be important enough. So what we have to do is make the government realize that The House and Stacked Deck are the same gang!"

mm that's quite a distance.

The squad fires the cluster strike from Pire Town. It's an unsettling wait for the missile to travel across half a country. Midas waits a couple more minutes but the strike never comes to Notingburg. About 30 more minutes pass but no strikes are sent from the Detinu Provinces to Panami Nation. Midas realizes that someone is monitoring warheads and missiles in the sky. A missile was probably sent from the Detinu Provinces to meet the cluster strike while it was still in the air.

What now? (And where is Midas and Beplep right now?)

"He's better than me," the father chuckles.






"I won a pawn!" the kid exclaims excitedly. Mikos counts the pawns and indeed he has. Fireza has 8 pawns while Aliruja only has 7 pawns. Seems like a small insignificant advantage but who knows. "Dad, you seemed to have lost your memory! You're supposed to capture towards the center of your boards with your pawns! And pieces that defend pawns can be captured!"

"Ah yes, I'm getting old," the dad smiles.

 

What Midas is doing: Making propganda videos about pire town saying that if they won't hand over the Powerful mage we will raid. Then creates propogada video vice versa with money (an amount they will not have) instead of a mage. At the end I add, "if you don't pay the ransom the only way to settle it is with War!"
This has a 50% of convincing at least 1 and a 25% of convincing both

Beplep goes to Webeca to kick back at a safe distance

 

Well not exactly because of a couple reasons.
1. Poor timing. Notingburg was just assaulted by Midas and so it's clear that Panami is not responsible for this.
2. Detinu and Panami are close allies, and they are able to communicate with each other easily. Imagine US and Canada relations but 10 times more better and convenient.

While this doesn't provoke any action by either government or Notingburg, several other major cities are concerned such as Mesos, Middleground, and Webeca. Pire Town is aggravated at whoever's responsible for the propaganda, as well as whoever's responsible for the attack on Notingburg. Perhaps it might be a better idea to spread the fear in the less aware cities as Notingburg and Pire Town know clearly what is going on.

 

Uh oh Midas did not plan for this!
Midas moves his town and the army into a secondary base in a secret forest.
Midas's scientest are devloping Experimental weapons

Flare Missle.
a normal Cruise Missile with flares to prevent it from being shot down.
some other scientest are trying to create a device that can Hypothetically cross the timezones, however it is very unlikely it can be done (the past never happened)
Beplep walks into a bar and challenges someone to a game of go fish

 

"And how the hell do you plan on doing that?"

 

Hmm, can you describe the hypothetical device (it's not the watch, right?).

Beplep finds himself in a game of go fish with three others.

Beplep goes fist.

"Simple. We go to the government building in Macro and tell them." You realize that this guy does not know much about the world. You sigh as you realize that this plan doesn't actually work. There is no way the government would actually care to listen to Hikof's observations. But there is still a little bit of hope inside of you. Maybe if you could get this to actually work, you can escape your debt.
