You've never seen this type of metal before, which is strange because you work with a lot of types for your job.
You remember this woman saying she found this item together with a pile of rusted weapons. If this item was there as long as those weapons, there should have been a decent amount of rust on it by now.
Both the metal and the fact that it is in such a good state is odd to you.

I'm going to cast Identify as a ritual, to see if anything comes up. If not, I'll try again with just basic detect magic to see if it houses some magic but doesn't have properties.

"It's about 2 days from here, north of the Crossroads. More could die when you're out."

 

'Ilina': "True, I'm not sure how we handle this."

 

"I don't know either. And hoping for the murderer isn't a good idea."

"So what's the plan? How would you capture a murderer?"
