The Problem With Community Events.

    Hello, Wynncraft community.

    I'd like to address an issue with the current state of community events, and what should be done to fix them. I'm going to be addressing the most recent event here, the 'November Hunt'.

    Now, you may be saying, "Nepeta, the event just started! You need to stick it out to offer proper review!". That is where you're wrong. Within the first few minutes this event is still facing the same problem as it's ancestor: The Hide and Seek a mod event. However, this event somehow did worse, an evolutionary step backwards you might say.

    Now, I'll stop beating around the bush here and get straight to it: Events don't work if they're hosted on the main server, and definitely don't work if they're hosted on one single server. The player count for one server is 60, and when a server is announced for an event, these fill very quickly. I find this to be unfair. "Unfair? It's a first come first serve policy! And besides, there are multiple rounds for people to play!" You might be saying. The problem is, this will happen every single time a new server is announced, and the majority of players will always be left out.

    Now, there's one extremely simple solution to this: A community event server. Wynncraft has Beta Testing servers, even Build Servers, so why not a separate server the same as normal Wynncraft, but with a much much higher player limit? This would eliminate the main problem of events, people not being able to participate them. Not only this, but this unlocks new possibilities with events: How about the server has a constant party bomb effect? Or players are made to battle it out nether style in the main map?

    At this current point in time, I think most of these "Community" events are downright unfair and badly planned. Having one single server for only 60 people to join, when this community is made of thousands of players, is very bad design. A server dedicated to community events would be a great solution to this problem, due to the sheer frequency these events happen at.

    back when we did Imperial and Valkyrie (and legio) events we did the majority of them on a privately owned server due to this problem. I also seem to recall that one of @PillowPet events was done in the lobby where there isn't a player limit.

    A dedicated event server, similar to the Nether one, could work. But a whole other IP like the Build server probably wouldn't. I'm no expert on servers, but I'd guess Bungee servers cost less than IP servers (for lack of a better term).

    So a whole new server? No. But a sub-server for events and parties? Sign me up.

    we also planned to do some of the events cross server (the grab random items from a list and return one mostly) as we all talked on discord and only needed one representative in a server in order to enable the event to take place there.

    That honestly sounds like a great idea. I don't know if the same 60 player rule applies to the nether, but if there was a seperate server option like with Wizard Fortress but to access the community event server, it would work a whole lot better.

    Only the leader has to be on the right server, along with everyone has to swap servers so there should always be a spot open for the leader.
    It would have been much worse if we didn't force people to switch.

    Getting a community server is something that I've been trying to do, but it isn't as easy as just make a server with a 300 person cap on it.

    Maybe instead of having one mod hide on a 60 or even 300 player server, several mods (5-6 maybe) could hide in different places on multiple servers. Then you'd be including about a third of online players without needing some laggy 300 person server or exclude everyone with a 60 person server. Or more generally, community event could be spread between several servers instead of crowding just one. Just my two cents on this.

    I ended up talking to Salted more about this, we can't really have servers over 60 without doing some network rehaul. So an event server probably won't be coming any time soon unfortunately.
    Until then I'll figure out a different way for people to do events.

    Is it possible to have a server without the Wynncraft gameplay plugins (like how Wizard Fortress was completely different from the main game), and instead just keep it to commands like /msg, /r, and possibly /warp?
