Sorry but since I'm still pretty new, I'd like to see when/where Grian said that @Yuno F Gasai , and we don't know how big Dern is. I personally believe it's a realm though.

 

So @Ahpi Ton Papi gave me some great info on the sealed letters... I'm just going to paste that conversation here

If you look at all the letters, it reads;

"Dear Nilrem,

The letter I enclose to you has been sealed with concealment magicks. I trust you to know how to read it.

My war against the creature is futile. Intel has reached me from a trusted source. Our world is far smaller than we could have imagined, our magick feeble in comparison to what i am about to explain.

There are realms beyond our comprehension, powers we can not hope to defeat. Two immense forces are at war, with our plain of existence being the battleground. There is a dark creature of the night in a land "far" away, it poses a threat to all.

I give you this letter as a warning and a farewell, friend. I am going to challenge the beast and attempt to seal it away using my own life force, for I know that is all i can do, killing it is not a option.

About an "infection", implying that Dern is spreading, this could prove it;

The part about about "our plain of existence being [used as a] battleground" is what strengthens your theory, meaning Dern is "here". And it's obviously Dern because it's a land "far" away. Far probably meaning a completely different realm, which we believe is to be manifesting into our realm.

Now, I also believe we'll be finding Bob in Dern because it directly says;
"...There is a dark creature of the night in a land "far" away, it poses a threat to all..."

"...no one must search for me. You must fake my death, and create a body for them to bury..."

You should know "Robert" is Bob's real name, and this means Bob is still alive in Dern fighting something. He's still alive because he talks about us, the new Frumian recruits. If he's not alive he must atleast be recently deceased. This means "Bob's Reincarnation" the boss isn't really a full reincarnation/revival of the hero, more of reanimation, probably an artificial soul being bound to the faked body.



My response:

Bob is probably still fighting - the trigger of the Dern expansion might just be him finally failing and falling under The Eye's control/dying
I'm going to assume the item of power enclosed is some kind of "snapshot" of Bob's soul at the time he went to fight The Eye - seeing as it is level 110 at the time he left Wynn, he must have though he was strong enough alone.

Quick Speculation: The Eye is using Bob as a conduit to this world and he will be the true final boss

Bob is more or less the manifestation of humanity's might when he leaves to fight The Eye, which means that we
A: Are probably going to be higher level than 110
B: Will need lots of friends

I assume that Orphion is the antithesis of The Eye
Maybe contact from him is what drove Bob to fight The Eye in the first place? Or maybe the villagers/elves contacted him to help with the Dern problem aHA

if Orphion needed a champion to fight, then wouldn't The Eye?

it might have been CoW, but I'm pretty sure that the corruption is a consequence, not an intention, of this war.
If it is, then that means Bob fought CoW and everyone was right for all the wrong reasons

but if it isn't - well, we got a fight going for us. Then again, the wording of the letter implies that he's going to face it directly, and that it is one creature. Phew.

So, in retrospect:

Orphion Vs Eye

1: The Eye attempts bring Dern into the physical realm through a location behind the abandoned mines
2: The Stress this causes in the world opens a rift in Wynn to a corrupted realm located in between Light and Dark
3: The Villagers, trying to find the source of the corruption, find this area and try to research ways to stop The Eye. They find a way to seal it, but need a powerful lifeforce
4: Bob is contacted by Villagers, Agrees to do it for sake of the world
5: Angered by this, The Eye overwhelms the villager race with a sense of greed
6: The Eye and Bob enter battle - The Eye is much more powerful than expected, and it's all Bob can to to lock it in battle
7: Some villagers, taken by greed, return to Gavel and spread it
8: This creates the Succoru parasites which infect the realm of light
9: Orphion resists, but eventually begins succumbing to the darkness
10: This creates the Decay

So far the Eye is winning - Let's hope we can change that.

Final Note

I was snooping around this article

and i saw something in this line

so it probably isn't CoW
that thing has been sulking in a cave for decades, I doubt he did much.

buuut

This implies that the servant is the one who infected the villagers, which means that Bob may have succeeded in sealing The Eye! Huzzah!

However, the servant is now trying to get it/him back. ... welp

So maybe, just maybe, the bringing of Dern into this dimension is meant to do something, like generate enough power to re-animate it and destroy Orphion
