It actually doesn't as its an ID that has set damage and poison doesn't do damage while they're taking other damage

 

I've always wondered about that... When using poisoned gear, constantly attacking didn't seem to speed up their expiration. I assumed they would be taking both damage from the hits and the original poisoning, but that didn't seem to be happening. Seems poison is more useful for us "spray & pray" types who have trouble staying on target and/or just toss out AoE spells at long range and hope for the best.

Most definitely, that's the best way to utilize poison especially if it does more damage than your weapon.

 

Poison seems fine now that I understand how it works. Before, I just assumed it either didn't work the way I thought it did, or was buggy.

Only lame things poison has done for me 1) made me refight a dungeon boss. Guess death by poison didn't count as my kill.
2) counts as the follow-up hit for wind prison, so you can't use a more potent spell/attack to make it really hurt.

Now spamming arrow storms and bomb arrows with a high poison stat into crowds could be way more efficient crowd control than how I've used them before.

I've got three spiritshocks each with a different pair of T6 powders for testing the effects. I've got a couple higher level bows waiting for me to take their place but I'll miss the spiritshock's poison.

Yes. But I'd rather have more raw Heath Regen due to my stated lack of accuracy.

Still with a weapon at max it can do enough to get it the #2 spot

 

This is why the whole DPS stat doesn't get me very far. Each piece of gear you have, how you allocate skill points and/or how you actually play, changes the equation.

All DPS can answer is how much damage the bare naked weapon can be expected to do if it is wielded by a bare naked player who never misses and never pauses on the ole trigger finger.

It lets you see the relative magnitude of a weapon's damage output compared to the stats of other weapons in a vacuum.

At best it provides more information to help you design your builds to maximize the desired ability(s) or determine which item to keep and which to sell off. It does not answer either question on its own.

Related thought... I always have to try out new items that look like they might be good enough to replace my current kit because I don't fully understand the game mechanics yet to math it out. Nor do I catch all the possible interplay between skills, unadulterated damage ranges and the IDs of my existing kit. Anyone else find the reality experienced not matching the expected outcomes?

When you've not had better, it's bloody nice to have. Honestly, the best raw HP Regen I've had is 98, so 115 sounds nice to me.
