    Okay, then i think they forgot to divide by two when calculating for ethereal then. (before they updated) they had ethereal at 661 i think, but i got 280.5 when i did it, because i hadnt noticed that they already did it.

    Aren't they talking about melee dps because they don't include raw spell dmg bonuses and the like.

    Sweet baby jesus on a stick. I decided to calculate the highest possible melee dps with cata, and...

    With Blood Moon, Chest of Inept, Thunder Sanctuary, Shaggy Boots, 2 Black Rings, Knucklebones, and an Electric Torc (all max) you end up with (including dex bonus)...

    17326 DPS (1715 neutral, 15611 thunder)

    GOD DAMN. That's insane. I mean, you'll have less than 1k health, and even if you do get more, Knucklebones will take care of that after a few hits, but if you want to become a suicidal lawnmower then this build is your thing.

    Though Knucklebones can easily be replaced with a 17% thunder damage item (name escapes me) and if you're really not feeling the 1k health thing, Chest of Inept can go away for a Leo or adamantium and still be OP as all hell

    Interesting information and all but DPS isn't a great stat for me as a basis for deciding on a weapon's merits.

    Point #1) My aim sucks. A high ROF (attack speed) is required for me to counter act my crappy accuracy. T'is not a good measure for damage output in my case, but a way to ensure I do some damage in a timely manner.

    Point #2) Damage Output is only about half of what I need to know to determine if a weapon is going to fit my desires. More damage is always better than low, obviously. And as mentioned above, speed matters to me, but so do the different abilities (IDs) the bow imparts/modifies and as well as the number of slots and how all of it interacts with the rest of my kit.

    I've been collecting all the Morph Set items as the core of my kit. It gives pretty generic across the board bonuses, most notably in terms of skill points ([WHINE]assuming they ever fix the bug that keeps the set bonus skill points to register correctly[/WHINE]). So I have to get my Regen/Steal/Spell/Melee/Walking Speed bonuses from the non-Morph item slots (currently just helm and ring #2) and weapon bonuses. Thus a moderatly damaging weapon with abilities and/or bonuses that cover holes in what the rest of my kit lacks beats out a more damaging one most of the time.

    I'm not saying the DPS stat is useless, just that it focuses too narrowly to fully inform you what value a particular weapon brings to your build.

    All of this is a function of average melee damage/hit * attack speed (which I just think of as rate of fire).

    It does not account for spells, poison, powder effects/specials, melee and spell damage bonuses (raw or percentage), elemental damage bonus from skill points or gear, the target's elemental defenses, or anything else that may pertain to damage infliction.

    It should be seen only as a stat showing the average unmodified damage a weapon could inflict in melee per second assuming all shots/swings strike home, and neither you, nor your opponent have any bonuses or defenses to modify it.

    Agreed. Too many variables to deal with.

    My posts were trying to show the incompleteness of this calculation for deciding which weapon is most effective for your build/play style etc., but at least it's a stat we can calculate consistently.

    If you want to sort out what the actual DPS is with all the possible modifiers and bonuses, go for it. But it'll be pretty complicated with little added benefit, in my opinion anyway. Translation: feel free to ignore everything I've been saying up to this point.
