this thread is dead so here's a new one

i found that, bullet hell games are "git gud" games you have to understand patterns to play well

the one i played the most recent was enter the gungeon it reminds me of the binding of issac because of the layout.

 

some games I think are modern/cult classics:
Terraria. Still being updated, and do I even need to explain anything?
TF2. Same as above, and the gameplay is so refined that it's hard to explain why it's so good. My stock reason (not the only one) is that the hit/miss style of weapons and immersive movement makes a game where every movement counts and hit/miss becomes rewarding, not punishing (stolen straight from lazy purple)
All half-lifes/portals. Do I even need to explain? Half-lifes are full of some of the best shooting in the history of games, and portal is extremely unique and fun.

Don't starve. A game where, during day 31, you may have
a) Just beat the easiest boss in the game with very basic items and overpreparation
b) beat the hardest boss in the game, built a very good base, and gotten some of the most powerful items in the game.
The game has an INSANE skill celling, but it, combined with its unforgiving gameplay that allows a lot of sequence-breaking, means that you go at your own pace, and die if you are too slow. It constantly forces you to adapt and change for the first year or two. Afterwards, surviving is pretty easy, but things like the ever bigger hound waves, the caves, the ruins and the adventure mode keep things chalenging. "I'll just reload a save! And try again, and do it better!" No saves. Only about 3 ways to resurrect, one is unrenevable and the others need access to very advanced technology and materials. To put it simply, it's the most hardcore survival game pretty much ever. Hard like bullet hell. And it has a great story, and some very nasty nightmare fuel. There even is a resource called "nightmare fuel" in the game! Stuff made from it makes you insane, soo...

One more: crusader kings 2. It has lots of expansions, and that might seem intimidating, but you only need about half. But still, even the vanilla game is pretty fun.

Also Cities:skylines is a greatest city builder out there, literal hundreds of thousands of mods and props
Oxygen Not Included was a great little game that I played for a bit, the concepts are hard to grasp at first but you'll soon have some fun colony building, has received tonnes of updates
Astroneer is a great sandbox game, still receiving updates and really fun to explore in
X-com is a great classic for fans of tactical turn-based strategy games. Battletech is another that fits into this category

you may not like the shitty art ZUN has but the music should make for it
at least stage themes in HSiFS should

Maid dio's theme is great, specially the original one and stage ones, The Maid and the Pocket Watch of Blood, and Luna Dial
Night of Nights is also a kewl remix tbh
