Spare Tools?

Hey I'm pretty new to wyncraft (loving it btw). I am just confused on how spare tools work. I'm currently collecting resources to level up my crafting and such but sometimes it doesn't give me the resource I mine. It says my chances are lowered when mining with spare tools. Can someone please explain why it happens and how I can fix it? I'm mining granite/gold and willow/birch with level 2 pics and axes.

There's always a chance you don't get a resource when gathering. The chance to get a resource goes up as you level.

Having more than one of the tools you need to get that resource (i.e. when mining granite having two different pickaxes) in your inventory decreases the chance to get a resource. (This is to incentivise not mining for like 6 hours straight but if you want to do that you can still do it by going back to the blacksmith and repairing your one tool.)


As a side note, I recommend ignoring professions for a first playthrough. It's a crazy amount of extra grinding required for relatively little reward. Most people will only use crafteds at the very endgame, if at all. In which case it's easier to just buy what you want crafted from other players.
If you're into grinding alot and really like the idea of crafting your own gear, don't feel discouraged by this message. Crafted items can still be really good in the mid and early game. It just takes so long to level that you can quite easily outlevel your crafting level at that point if you try all crafting levels.
