I think the damage for chain lightnings is just your melee damage multiplied by chain lightning's ratio, but apparently it slightly decreases after every chain.

simply multiplying by 3 works if youre using cancer and only have raw melee damage from taurus and stuff (source: tested myself) but with builds that deal base damage the calculation gets pretty whacky and complicated.
if you have a cancer-less build that deals the weapon's base damage you cant just multiply it with anything and get the answer

i discussed chain lightning with major on the discord and turns out you can get a fairly accurate calculation by adding the 240% melee damage on wynndata to the build manually and checking the average melee hit
havent tested this in-game myself which is why i'd like to know if you could find some good and easy-to-use formula for it

this i havent heard of before and during my rainmaker testing the damage stayed consistent but maybe it works different with base damage then?

this only tells as much as checking the effect yourself in-game does

But here's what damages I got instead (and the water damage was over the value as well, proving it to be inaccurate)

If you really want chain lightning damage just take the wynndata stats and plug them into motoki's calculator
