Just a FYI for anyone attempting the "hard" code. It's a hash, so don't even bother (hashes are one-way encryptions). The plaintext doesn't exist within common hash databases so reverse searches will be futile. You can attempt dictionary attacks if you wish, and the salt is likely "good luck". Soooo.... "good luck" if you actually try to decipher it.

Putting this out there to prevent people from wasting too much time on it like I did.

Okay, I'm computer-geeky enough to know that this is going to be a hashed string (Most likely MD5, it's preeeety standard). A quick 8 character, alphanumeric permutation MD5 brute-force attempt reveals nothing, meaning that it's probably salted. I'd be surprised if anybody ever cracks it :D

Oh, and if you think no one is going to ever crack it, is the plaintext one word or multiple words?

 

Oh I was gonna say it's probably salted.. but what salt is it? Maybe it says good luck because its a really uncommon salt? And the other one looks like a cipher and it says 99 years ago.. something used 99 years ago? I'm on my phone so I can only speculate.

I've noticed each word in the 'cipher' is 4 letters long, meaning.. it must translate to another type of cipher or encryption.

But tbh never used salts so yea gonna do some research after school and come up with something, also I just want clarification that this is in fact can be done without brute forcing for 1 year??

 

I hope the first one is just made to look like a hash. If it is there is no real reason to even try to decode it. That's basically like just trying to brute force a password or something.

It is going to be an enormous pain to crack it. I did not intend for it to be done- I only ever expected the tier two code to be crackable.

 

tell me a tiny, tiny bit more, what do you mean by enormous pain, will it take a long time to crack or a long time to find the right encryption?
