As when he pulled the sword out of the floor yesterday, the sword is extremely light when not being swung, but gains impressive weight that allows its strikes to cut through most objects. Darx tries a side strike on a nearby tree, the weight once again multiplying as the blade reaches a certain speed. With a loud thunk, the sword buries itself about a foot into the thick tree, the boy struggling to take it out afterwards.

On the subject of Particularities, there aren't any books that interest Alain, for most are either children's stories or works he has already read.

Statue makes Alain's body almost completely still, to the exception of his most important organs. That means, however, that the man is unable to breathe nor blink while his Particularity is active. Alain has become somewhat used to this drawback and can hold his breath for roughly three minutes, but it has a time limit.

Particularities are rarely written about in individual entries, given they are so common it would be nigh-impossible to keep track of all of them. Surely, a few entries describing Fyrila Anbsor's Prodigy Particularity or other feats by random individuals throughout history and myths were found and promptly read by Alain, but no unknown or obscure Particularities were learnt.

While struggling to take the sword out of the tree, Darx says

"Uh, maam, you will be fine there? I'm going to continue on."

I start to look for another book.

 

"Any of them interesting?"

 

Janee brushes her hair, uncertain. Slowly nodding to herself, she turns to Darx with an answer. "No, I will accompany you to the gates proper. Wouldn't be able to get it out of my conscience if I lost the both of your bunch." Watching closely, the man notices that the driver has dark circles under her eyes, although small. Not long after, the woman hits the back of the horses again and continues the rest of the journey silently, caravan side-by-side with the Darx.

Arriving at a small outpost-like house, Janee stops the horses and stands by, getting up and off her seat. Lifting the 'lid' of the seat up, she picks up a small letter with a red wax seal in it and gives it to the silver-haired teen with a weak smile. "Sate wanted me to give this to you. It has a map and information about where you should go next." She says, which makes Darx raise an eyebrow. Looking down at the letter, he sees the seal is broken near the bottom. "Sorry." The driver quickly adds, eyes following the boy's gaze.

"You know, I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to go back. Y'know, venturing into the Mist woods and all." Janee continues but ends up sighing and extending her hand to the boy after a moment. "Good luck out there."

There are thousands, all around Alain.

Saraha stays silent for nearly a minute before responding. "I doubt it. The first tried to get in by lying to us." Deton motioned his head in a quiet question to how it went. The woman continued the story accordingly. "It is a crime to try to get to the Ruler's room in illicit ways. We arrested her after her initial lure wore off. As is by law, any crimes related to the Ruler are to be met with force, and her legs were broken during the arrest." The man merely nodded, trying not to come across as surprised.

"The second one enlisted into the guards. Served for about a year, killed in an attempt at the Ruler's life. Was buried as a hero." Deton gives a sad 'Hm', not unlike those of Saraha herself. He was more surprised at the fact that her voice did not stray from the common monotone, even when speaking about the death of a comrade.

"Ugh, damn asses leaving me, hey I swear there was another crazy person along side with me. Only if I refused then I wouldn't be in this mess."

 

After hearing that all i say is "Damn" and stay silent waiting for the wagon to move

 

I quickly look for any book that looks interesting. If there isnt any i leave the library

 

Well it would be improper to avoid them constantly. Their fault if they walk into the room I escaped to. Look for a map or atlas or smth, to figure out where I am.

As Darx turns around and continues the path towards the border outpost alone, he can hear the quiet meanderings of Janee behind him. "Oh! I thought I had earned myself a handshake at least, but I guess not..." Ignoring the woman behind him, the teen looked around him as much as the clearing his sword generated allowed. There wasn't much of interest in the forest nor the outpost that began outlining itself in the Mist horizon, although Darx did notice that the trees were more adapted to the cold than those he had seen the day before.

Deciding to open the letter, the silver-haired boy took out the envelope from his backpack and opened the already broken seal. Inside, a small map of the roads of the region with circles and explanations from Sate lied alongside a small necklace, with an equally petite pendant. The trinket was nothing more than a sky-blue gemstone, glowing similarly to the one that adorned the longsword. Putting the two near each other, Darx felt a mild tingle of electricity and the radius of his clearing expand lightly as if the two jewels worked together in generating the field.

Wrapping the necklace around his wrist, the boy took the map in his hands and took a long look at it as he walked. There were few roads in the map, but the innkeeper had made sure to outline a path among them, guiding Darx towards a city to the name of Enledorf. Unfolding the map further, the teen saw that another map had been stitched together to the one depicting the roads. With large letters written 'Enlendorf' on the top, a map of the relatively small city highlighted an inn, with a path leading up to it. Not caring about the other writings of the map, Sate had written details about what to do. "Get to the inn, and ask to speak the Ilfgür. Avoid getting the spirit into trouble. If the man doesn't want to pay you, show him the following:" Under the instructions, the innkeeper had written a three-line paragraph, in a language Darx did not understand, but guessed was Hymnurian.

Regardless of the language, the path outlined by Sate would take the boy around three hours of walking.

( Since humans are more developed here than in the real world, you probably wouldn't get super tired. You could also run this distance and arrive earlier, but then you'd be tired. )

I'll now wait for Kato if this doesn't bother you too much. If he takes two more days to reply, I'll move the story along and he can describe his actions inside a thought.

There are few books in this section on the topic of Particularities that Alain hasn't read before, but hundreds of other topics scattered around the huge library. Not taking interest in them though, the man leaves the archive with little to no change to his pre-existing knowledge.

There aren't any maps around the dusty attic, although Wren manages to find some old books describing Opladyl. With a more thorough search, the man also manages to find a truly old book, of Coldenic making, describing the port town of Alsgar. Opening for information as to where said city was, Wren finds an illustration of a map of Colden and Opladyl, dated of 1663. In the map, Opladyl is larger to the south than it is today, but with a large chunk of its eastern territory missing.

 

What's the next closest city, not counting Colden or the desert cities?
Also, does this world have a way of confirming who your family is? :/ Just realized Imma have a hard time trying to find where I came from if all I can rely on is my own physical description. xD

There aren't any cities marked in the map that indicate Wren's current location, making the man unable to recognize the city closest to him.

Not really, but that can be arranged by finding records of people with Particularities similar to yours and narrowing it down to those with a similar appearance. Which is like, totes easy.
