let's take sombra's arg from overwatch for example.
lots of conspiracy theories and ciphers went on. Sure, the new hero might have been the reward, but the players and contributers didn't get rewarded for loot boxes.
the point of an arg is to be a community project/game outside the physical game itself.
not everything needs a reward, because if you think that, have fun with the needed community service hours for college...

anyways back to the suggestion, yeah I kinda think the ??? hunt should be a mystery hunt thing as well.
