Archer/Hunter Secondary Throttle: Cluster / Az

concept: build deliberately low mana, then make up for it by alternating your primary with a high-mana secondary. the average damage dealt is then (ideally) higher than the nominal damage dealt by using either one alone.

however, this doesn't work in practice because most weapons outperform their secondary candidates, if they have them at all.

… actually i only found two archer pairs that work.


one was mixed mana ultratank freedom quadwield (alternated with spring), which can't otherwise fit more mana without losing either ehp or greed.

unfortunately it is not only against other players' tastes but also has a double mythic requirement, which i imagine is slightly pricey for the average player.


the other one was mixed mana ddance cluster alternated with az. [edit: oh right this build supports rte if anyone cares]

Spoiler: the effective bomb damage is higher

assuming 8 spells per regen tick, 11 mana and 3 mana are needed respectively for the two weapons. thus, cluster nets 1 mana loss per 4s, while az nets 4 mana gain in that same time. based on this assumption, a weighted average against the bomb damages on the two weapons can be determined:

weighted average
= (4 * cluster damage + 1 * az damage) / 5
= (4 * 13851.76 + 1 * 11045.68) / 5
≈ 13290.54​

this is competitive with an adjusted version of this build using just cluster, and easily beats one using just az.

multiwielding is realistically my only concept lol (apart from the fact that i exclusively play tank archer)
