ik but like... removing it just feels so weird. The pre 1.18 hourglass is THE most iconic thing in Wynncraft for me, and likely many others, and removing any reference to it in the city just feels so odd to me.

If this is the most iconic thing in Wynn for you then that’s kind of sad. Considering that it was for a bad quest that got remade. Should we bring back Sister City too?

Funny but not really comparable.

It’s original purpose was to fit in for the Sister City quest. Explain to me the purpose of having a giant hourglass in a town. Is it a doomsday timer?? Maybe.

I am assuring quality. You all need to learn to let go of the past. You will never relive old wynncraft moments, not because the game is any different, just because that’s just how life is. Like I said earlier, nostalgia is an illusion.

I remember that hourglass being there even before the quest. It was one of the highlights of my first day of Wynn, and even before the quest was added, it was one of the most iconic parts of Wynn and something that truly stood out in its world for me. I don't want sister city back. I just want a remnant of something simple from a time where I made many memories.

 

Let's just clarify something. What are the advantages of removing it? Clearing up the sky a tiny bit? Allowing players to move on?? Wtf lmfao

Disadvantages: Pretty much everything put above: nostalgia; something to hold on to in an ever changing game; inside jokes.

Sure the disadvantages of removing it may not be significant in your eyes, or whoever decided to remove it, but to older players it is. And the only reason more people aren't here complaining because they thought something like this would never happen. So instead of telling us to move on (seriously bro this isn't my ex wife, we don't need to move on) please understand why the community values this flash into the past.

 

I removed it because I thought it looked dumb and now that the quest is gone I thought no one would care. Guess not. I'll add it back. The people have spoken.

 

Oh, and a guy who's still talking about Big Chungus (your forums message or whatever it is) shouldn't be making remarks about how sad it is to reminisce on the past.

This is exactly why some people say the content team is out of touch with the community. While I can understand the initial decision to remove the hourglass, to completely shut down any talk of reverting the change is just a slap in the face to the people who care.

Alright I guess I'll answer seriously too

Nostalgia is an illusion, sure. But so are all other emotions. I'm happy, I'm sad, I'm touched, I'm nostalgic. It's all in my head, so what? These memories, memories of the big old hourglass were happy. It was a huge hourglass in the middle of the city above the Item Identifer, no wonder it became Detlas' telltale feature. People like myself, who've been here for six years, like to reflect on those memories, and it's a beautiful thing if there's something physical that represends those memories.
That's nostalgia, an illusion, but it makes us happy.

As for the "purpose" of a giant hourglass in the middle of a city: there isn't one. Neither is there a purpose for Kraken Island, or the Sewer Trap, or the Darkest Moments Cave in the Canyon of the Lost. They are all pointless and serve no meaningful, real purpose. Actually, Wynncraft as a whole doesn't serve a purpose either. Plenty of other video games, plenty of other ways to amuse myself when I'm not busy studying or doing work. So just remove Wynncraft as a whole. It's unnecessary in the grand scheme of things.
This is such a depressing way of looking at things, specifically art (which I do consider Wynncraft absolutely is). Sometimes, very often in my experience, people create things just because they feel like it. The hourglass was probably one such thing. It makes the world more interesting, that little mystery. If we all knew exactly why the hourglass was there, it'd be boring - the same goes for every other seemingly pointless thing. This includes the Darkest Moments Cave, which has also been removed in 1.20.
It's a shame. I feel like so many beautiful little things are getting removed just because they have no real point of being. But again, they don't need one.

With the way you’re defending it. It does sound like your wife. I’ll go over your disadvantages. For nostalgia, everything old in Wynn could be seen as nostalgic. I remember when I was young I enjoyed playing this obscure game on my Nintendo DS. When I’m older and play that game again, I realize it’s terrible and repetitive. What does this have to do with an hourglass? Well if you look at the inclusion of an hourglass in a city it doesn’t make much sense and might end up confusing people. (Maybe that’s why a quest was added to make it fit in) now that the quest is gone the hourglass serves no purpose other than appealing to your nostalgia and supposed “inside jokes”. In the end, old players leave eventually and new ones come in to fill in for them. Having a hourglass there is probably not going to be confusing to new players. With that being said, not having an hourglass there is not going to be the end of the world for old players and cause them to leave. From what I have seen if gaming communities are good at one thing. It’s getting outraged about stupid things.

This will be the last of my replies in this thread. I will likely receive many replies disagreeing with me but you will all secretly hear where I am getting at deep down. The hourglass will probably end up getting added back (maybe, don’t quote me on that). I ask for you to not hold disdain for me for disagreeing with you about such a trivial thing.

Wow! Look at that hourglass. I wonder what it is counting down to? It looks very out of place. I wonder if it is tied to a questline? It sticks out a lot. It doesn't give me memories of anything, I feel no nostalgia. It seems quite pointless. I sure hope my opinions don't create a forum flame war.
