You go back to down the stairs and go through the door to find the hall almost deserted. The last of the guests have been sent out, the bodies have been removed and Esmé is solemnly dragging one of her crates off of the stage. Two guards stand in front of each door, including the one you just came in from. "Ah, you're the one who went off with Elimut! What happened?"
Esmé waves at you from across the hall.

You don't really know the layout of the building. You could try climbing down anyway, but there's a pretty big risk of falling. There are probably guards in the hall you could ask for directions (though you don't know how cooperative they'd be), or you could go the long way round, into the city and out the gate.

You did. The girl is a dwarf, and everyone else is inside.

"I see. I'm not sure I believe him, but there we are. Where are you going now? Do you have a place to stay?"

 

Turn and go back to everyone else. Observe the scene once more

You go back the way you came, past the room where you changed and into the courtyard, before running into guards. "You're Doushoins' guards correct?", one of them says.

She looks at you mischievously and beckons you over.
"Well, sorry, but I can't help. Good luck!" the guard finishes, before returning to standing motionless in front of the door.

Dropping the chest at the corner of the room, she smiles at you. "So, let's face it. You're not going to make it back here if you leave. And the only place you'll be able to speak to Elimut is here. So, we need to stay here overnight."
She shakes her pocket and there's the unmistakable jangle of keys.
