Rp - Gavel's Darkest Hour- Act Two Begins [7/7]

I side step and slice at it from the back

 

"Um, can you not flick the rubble in our direction next time?"
I get on the ground and tell Bantira to do the same in case Juntabi doesnt listen

 

There's not really anywhere else to throw it. Bantira has scarcely got on the ground when the second wave of rubble comes, blocking off the way back to the cell. "Uh, one more should do it.", Juntabi says, raising her wand again.

The final wisps of the ghost dissipate on your blades as it seems to sink back into the ground. The ringing doesn't stop though, it continues incessantly, no longer with any words.

 

I try to get away from this place continuing to cinfras

 

You walk away along the road towards Cinfras. The ringing seems to gradually fade, but not nearly fast enough and the ghost seems to have made the soaked front of your robes even colder. Suddenly, you hear a trundle behind you. An open top magenta cart is approaching, its sides bearing the text "High Mage of the Grand Academy of Gylia". Inside, you see Dermit, wearing his best robes, and two of your teachers. It appears to be driving itself, but you know they just cast Vanish over the horses. Dermit looks down at you, slightly amused.
"You okay there Kalitsk? Rough night?"

 

"Can't complain that much, it was nice and cozy"

 

He laughs, clearly not convinced.
"You heading to Cinfras? Makes sense. That's where most of the homeless people go. The ones that don't die from starvation, cold, giant spiders, disappointed robbers..."
You notice a hobbit sitting next to him, wearing exactly what Esmé always wore as his secretary. It looks like he's already replaced her.

 

"You became homeless? Wow didn't expect that"

 

He seems unfazed. The cart draws alongside you.
"It was a shame to lose Esmé, but I get to lose you too, so that works out pretty well, all in all. Maybe you two can create some losers' club together."
His new secretary looks very uncomfortable. "Try to keep it professional, sir", she whispers audibly to him.

 

I continue to keep my head down and wait for the last wave of rubble

 

She casts a meteor instead, blasting apart the top of the pile and creating an unstable looking ramp out. Dust settles at your feet and larger fragments of wall spill out across the floor. Juntabi immediately starts climbing out, while Bantira closes her eyes and points her hand upwards.
"The remaining guards are trying to stop the public from getting too close. They're panicking, they think this is the start of a larger strike."

 

"I heard she had to bribe you"

 

"Where did you hear that?", he says. "She resigned two weeks ago. She asked that we kept it secret. Okay, you got me, there may have been emeralds involved. But she chose to leave. Wanted to 'pursue her career'. Didn't know she had one. Probably doesn't."
The cart draws past, the driver clearly eager to get away from you.

 

"Well see you later" I wave

 

Dermit scowls as the cart heads onward, gradually getting farther away as you follow its trail to Cinfras. You can easily see the city in the distance now. Cinfras was the natural choice for the capital city for both its central location and defensibility. The royal palace is built in front of a cluster of mountains to the eastern side of town, its great towers and halls visible from miles away. The rest of the city is surrounded by stone walls, slightly elevated from its surroundings. The spire of the bank clearly sticks out of the relatively flat skyline of the main town. Dermit's cart disappears into the northern gate as you approach. The ghostly ringing has mostly died down but it remains in the back of your head, a constant irritation. The forest opens up into a flat plain with some farmland - this area has been rapidly developed after the Decay compromised the fields of Olux, leading to some disputes about who actually owns it. You approach the ramp that leads to the Northern gate. It's guarded by four villagers holding unusually long wands. "Name, occupation and reason for entry?", one asks you, holding out his wand to block you.

 

"Glem Kaltiskt, traveller, visiting the city"

 

He turns to one of the other guards. "I don't trust him. Looks like a thief if ever I saw one."

 

"I'm no theif. I even was in the academy in gylia"

 

"And how do we know that?"

 

"I have a robe, and I just talked to dermit"
