Yeah, sorry about the slow pace of things. I'll try to make actual events go by faster to make up for it.

"Agreed, though there is logic to it. He knows you could be a valuable asset and wants control over your development. Under Dermit's wing you could potentially become a threat, but he has plenty of time before that's possible. Why not try to bait you back before that happens, turn you into his puppet, 'protecting' you from any magic that challenges his own? Should he realise it's not working, he could have you killed immediately. He's blinded by your similarity to himself, thinks any shit you pull is nothing compared to your lust for power."

"Excellent. So, what are we waiting for? To Ahms! - wait not 'to arms', that's what we want to prevent. Forget I said that. Anyway, are you ready to leave? The sooner the better, and we'll have the cover of night in a couple of hours."

"Excellent."
She scribbles something on a piece of parchment, drops it and runs off.
Voices begin coming down the stairs.
"Sir, why are they coming?"
"Wood elves are experts in plant magic. I thought you would benefit from their teaching."
"Bullshit. You're pushing your stupid 'inclusivity' agenda. If elves could teach here they'd apply like-"
"That's enough."
"I think it's a great idea, after all, this is all for the good of the Forest. They want to help and we should let them."
"Thank you, Yodgut. But there's more to it than that. This - being - is like nothing villagers have ever known. Togak-"
"Togak's the Duke of the valley elves, completely different-"
"Elves have no dukes."
"They're the same species, how different can they be? After all, if you knew your history-"
Tarust emerges, with three young villagers at his side.
"Ah, you're here.", he exclaims. "Sorry about the delay, clerical error on the part of Yasmina. She's knew, our old secretary is... well, it's rather complicated."
"It's not complicated, Sir, she's a fucking traitor."
"Enough, Jildred."

You walk along the foothills of the mountains that mark the edge of known Gavel, doing your best to ignore Dwarfy's constant ramblings. After a while you spot what seems to be a small Dogun settlement.
"Oh, and that place is way across the border, surely Torl knows this can't go on forever, or does she want dotted borders drawn underground? Hang on, they probably know the way! I'll stop here while you ask for directions, I doubt they'll take kindly to dwarves, knowing the type you get in these places. And there are waiting lists for some of these tent hamlets! Unbelievable disrespect for the peace.

 

"Hello, nice to meet you!" I say to the young villagers, extending my hand for a friendly handshake and ignoring the discussion in a hope to lighten the mood.
"I've heard you are interested in plant magic? And don't worry about the delay." Smile.

 

"So you're saying that in time i could beat him in magic?"

 

"Fine, dwarfy person."
I enter the settlement, and try to find someone.

 

"oh, we're leaving already? i mean alright i guess."

 

Me: I hope no one steals a spot from me

 

1) - I'm still counting your spot as reserved
2) - There's a seventh spot that's been open since Amun_Ra left.

"No, not at all. A threat is not an equal. Nobody surpasses Elimut- nobody."
There's a sudden growl. "I told you it was only out hunting...", Dermit mutters weakly.
Halster looks around frantically - "Where the fuck did I put my wand?" and something large blocks what little light made it into the cave.

The settlement is a tiny group of shelters, constructed from Firewood and hides, arranged around a central, roaring fire that heats the area to a sweltering degree. It barely qualifies as a village. Most of the light and noise seems to be coming from a large shelter near the fire, but perhaps it would be wiser to find someone alone?

She grabs a leather satchel from a chair and leads you out the front door. "Perfect. Oh and there's a slight complication - we'll be going into Dwarven territory though, to get to the gate, and there'll be guards. We can't fight them for what I hope are obvious reasons, so we need a story. Any ideas?"

One of them returns the handshake with a polite smile.
"A pleasure. I'm Ortok"
"Jildred", says a tall, slim villager, waving unenthusiastically.
The third student, who you deduce is Yodgut, gives only a very slight nod in your direction.
Tarust begins leading the way, through the streets of Gylia and towards the Forest.
"Can you tell us a little bit about yourselves, uh, I forget your names.", he says.

 

I hand Halster one of my old swords and say "you can use this"

 

I search around the shelters opposite from the large shelter

"I'm Hels Gahn, and I'm interested mostly in helping the Forest against the Decay. There isn't much more than that, unfortunately." I smile apologetically.
