I lean over and hold the feathers out with both hands.

 

He turns left at the end of the corridor, muttering directions to himself, and you enter a slightly less grand hallway. He pushes open a large wooden door and slowly steps into a large room with a fairly low ceiling painted with a night sky. Shelves cover all the walls and most of the floor, all laden with books and scrolls of all subjects, sizes and lengths. Halster slowly makes his way to the back of the room. There you find Esmé, wrapped in some sort of sheet and reading an ancient-looking book written in elven script. She looks up as she sees you approach.
"Took you long enough. What was the hold-up?"

Togak holds the feather right in front of his eyes and starts running it through his fingers.
"Yes, taken from the bird's left wing... and the another from the right... Markings seem to suggest it came from near Templemount." His eyes widen and he recoils slightly. "And of the First Age. Incredibly rare to find them that young, and this was plucked recently. It would be worth a fortune, for those to whom that means anything. This is certainly puzzling."

She sighs and closes the book. "I get the feeling that's not the full story, but we have to move on. We have to break somebody who is incapable of walking out of the most secure dungeon in the Province. I hope you can find your sense of direction."

That one you do know. It's the capital of the Region of Bantisu, home of the Temple of Bantisu.

From what you remember from your studies in Aldorei, the age of pheonix refers to how many times it has burst into flame and been reborn from the ashes. First Age means it hasn't done that yet, and had only recently (in pheonix terms, about twenty years ago) hatched.

"Haha, oh great Ozoth (do i know her name?), please reconsider. For one, the eye is not mine to give, rather it's a national Dogun treasure. Moreover, would such a thing really be of value to you? As the dwarves have proven, it's nothing but a lump of hot rock. Surely, there is something else that would satiate yourself?"

 

Yes you do. Doguns have historically been friendly with dragons, and though the dragons put an end to that after the eruptions, their names are still familiar to most. And of course with Ozoth's flight into Bantisu anyone who hadn't heard of her before has now.

She tilts her head to the side in curiosity.
@H0Y0Y0Y0Y0B0Y and @Bluescreen - dragons are loud, so you can hear everything Ozoth says. I'll make sure to tag you in future.
"A treasure to me is worth to me what it is worth to those who lose it. And that lump of rock carries the spirit of an entire race. It is the most valuable thing I could hope for. I could destroy an army alone - what need would I have for some pathetic gadget, in any case?"
The tail end of the crowd pushes past you, leaving you and one of the dwarves alone with Ozoth at the top of the staircase.

Halster answers. "A larger group would only make us less manoeuvrable."
Esmé looks up at you an smiles. "I have a plan, don't worry. We use their own security against them. So - Glem pretends to have caught Halster sneaking in and takes him to the-"
"No. We can't do that."
"Why not? Losing your touch, Halster?"
"No, I just don't want a fucking bounty on my head. You know how fucking mad Elimut would be if I broke into his Palace and escaped his dungeon with his favourite prisoner? They can't know I'm here."
She looks at the floor, disappointed. "That's... I hadn't thought of that. We can still make this work, we just need another fake prisoner to take to the guards. Neither I nor Glem will do, we're both needed elsewhere in the plan. You don't happen to know of anyone...?"

 

"Well there is a girl that Halster drugged with magic on the way"

 

I whisper "I felt like I have been standing here for several days. Please just let me go, you extremists."

 

Halster looks uncomfortable. "We really shouldn't - I was going to get a potion for her and shit, get her back to work - shouldn't stunned her in the first place. She's done nothing to deserve getting herself roped into our fucked up death trap of a rescue mission."
Esmé shrugs. "She'll be fine. They won't hurt her much, they need her to be able to work."

You your surprise, the hand releases itself, and you can sense the Dogun runs towards the cave. The injured Dogun in the middle of the road holds out a hand towards you. "Jojo - you need to save them.", she calls out weakly. "Let Ozoth have the Eye - it's the only way to be sure. Hurry."

Out of nowhere, the villager gives a shout. "That's the signal - charge for the Eye!", he exclaims.

Well, your character doesn't actually know who she is, but I can reveal OOC that it's Bantira, also known as Derntok.

Select Doguns who chose to be 'Envoys' to the Dragons went to the Surface to take care of them (avoiding turning Obsidian through dragon fire), providing companionship, food (dragons are decadent - if they can get somebody to hunt for them they will), and treasure, mostly old Dogun treasures whose owners had died and left their belongings to the Dragons (this was seen as the charitable thing to do), though often stolen. In return the Dragons agreed not to leave the Heights, which the Doguns promised the Villagers they would maintain, and to honour the peace with all Dogunkind. This relationship was a source of national pride for Doguns, and a dragon adorns their flag to this day.

Halster gives a reluctant grunt. Esmé continues speaking, taking a bottle of a silver liquid out of her sheet and uncorking it. "So, Glem fetches this girl and drags her down to the dungeons. He tells the guards he found her sleeping at work. As they take her in, I slip through the door and release Dermit from his cell, cutting the string to the alarm bells as I go. Glem goes back upstairs and locks the upper door, trapping the dungeon guards with no way to call for help. Meanwhile, Halster will start a fire on the other side of the Palace. The guards will be sent to put it out and everyone else will be evacuated. Halster keeps those guards busy from the safety of a vanish spell while Glem deals with the dungeon guards, me and him carry Dermit upstairs and he and Glem teleport us across the river. Halster escapes unnoticed and we meet in that Gylia research cave in Greater Aldorei - I'll show Glem the way. If all goes well they won't know Dermit's missing until the fire's out and we're long gone. Any questions?"
