Rp - Gavel's Darkest Hour- Act Two Begins [7/7]

She holds out her hands towards the dwarves, who you now see are carrying what is unmistakably the Eye of Garahah - a sacred Dogun artefact long ago stolen by Dwarves, and that was said to be kept somewhere in Rodoroc. It's an enormous orange gem, significantly larger in all dimensions than the average Dogun. She gasps and her face quickly turns to ever widening shock.
"Oh my... so the- what- is the br- and they- this is so much to- and- oh no-..."
Her mouth continues moving but no words escape.

You discretely go into the back alley - nobody seems to have noticed. There is a window, on the upper floor of the scroll shop. It's very dirty so you can't see anything through it. You can see that climbing up there would be difficult but not impossible, and there doesn't seem to be a way to open it from the outside without breaking it. You start to hear raised voices inside, one of them belonging to Halster and another to a stranger you assume to be somebody from the shop.
"What do you mean two thousand emeralds? This is a matter of the life and death of hundreds!"
"I'm afraid that if you don't have the money I can't give you the scrolls."
"This is outrageous! Surely more workers from Ahms would benefit your stupid wallet in the future sometime!"
"You're going to have to find the emeralds somewhere."
"I want to speak with the fucking manager."

No. You get the feeling they aren't allowed to.

He scowls at you and turns away, muttering something about disrespect under his breath.

There's a short pause, you briefly hear footsteps behind you, and a reply comes.
"You'll be okay. You've done admirably. Now don't move - the Brotherhood have this under control."

She waves her arms at you - "Wait! What about the real accomplices?"

 

”One named Cupacharachupacabra or like that. Has wand is mage. Other no idea of.”

I put my ear to the wall hoping to hear more

 

But you do know? You heard her at the rally, and got that she's called Derntok. Or did you forget that?

As you look down at the amulet, you hear a distressed shout from an injured Dogun in the arms of the Dogun Mage you spoke to earlier.
"GET THE DWARVES, *sob* - they- THEY WANT TO- to- KILL EVERYONE!"
The voice in your ear goes on. "Don't you dare. We'll take care of her.

"Okay, okay, he's upstairs, making Cinfras scrolls. I'll get him. Maybe that'll shut you up."
You hear stomping footsteps going upstairs and going into the room with a window. You hear a much quieter conversation between the assistant and the manager, but you can't make out what they're saying. Downstairs, Halster continues speaking.
"And what the fuck are you doing here? I already said, I'm not interested."
You hear Esmé's voice with the fake accent she's been using since you left the palace.
"I came here to buy Olux scrolls for myself and my companion. If you won't help Dermit, I'll have to call in Yotor."
"Not him! Smug bastard - hang on - where is your companion - wait, what the fuck happened to Dermit? Is he important now?"
"I don't know where my companion went. As to Dermit, well, he fell foul to a most disgraceful bribe from the late King's brother and is now in the dungeons."
"What the- get your companion in here right fucking now. Can you - uh, help me with the scrolls? This whole Kandon-Beda business is kind of serious."
"No. He will come when he wants. "

(@WynnChairman After a couple of seconds of heavy breathing she manages to regain her composure. She shouts in the direction of the villager, "GET THE DWARVES, *sob* - they- THEY WANT TO- to- KILL EVERYONE!" - She turns back to you. "Help him. I'll explain later.")

I leave. AS FAST AS I CAN. Towards ahms if I know where that is. The last thing this war needs is another faction.

 

Remfir briefly chases after you, but quickly turns back around. "Forget it," she says. "He'll only cause more trouble." You recall your mage guide saying there was a way into Ahms in the lower part of Rodoroc, and the detective talking about a staircase where the dragon landed, but going towards an angry, near-invincible monster seems very risky. You could try going back through Rodoroc although you probably wouldn't be welcome there after everything that happened.

Ah, but there already is a third faction. You may have already run into them...

The voice replies, talking very fast. "We will only kill them if we have to. We have another solution in mind. But our mission is far too important to let a pesky mind-reader sabotage it." You feel a hand on your shoulder - the heat tells you it belongs to a Dogun.

You push the door open to find Halster pacing around the room between shelves of scrolls. Esmé is standing by the door.
"Wait - we could -" he starts taking scrolls of the shelves and stuffing them into his pockets.
"You fool!", Esmé shouts at him. "They'll know it was us!"
"And?", he says.

 

"Are you really trying to rob the place after you called the manager?"

 

"We can get out before he arrives - can you get up there and distract him? Complain about faulty scrolls or some shit?"
Esmé bats a bunch of scrolls out of his hands.
"We need the guards on our side if we're going to help Dermit."
"No we fucking don't."

ooc just to clarify, what exactly is the eye of garahath? does it have any special powers? and what would it mean if i just let the dragon take it?
also, can i see the Doguns standing behind the villager?

 

I travel to the east. (If that's where the dogun city is, then west)

 

Roll my eyes and turn to Rin.

Halster scowls at you while Esmé starts taking scrolls out of his pockets and putting then back with impressive dexterity and agility.
"Well I don't care for your personal vendetta. Wait - what the fuck? What's she doing?" You hear footsteps coming downstairs.

It's a priceless sacred artefact that stood at the centre of the city of Garah's Archtemple until it was stolen, according to Dogun religion the left eye of the war god Garahah which he lost defending Garah from demons, then gifted to the City should they ever need it. According to scriptures it has the power to shoot beams of holy fury that can kill any being in one strike, to resurrect those who die a noble death in battle and to protect the city it resides in from invasion, but while it was in the Temple, use of these powers was forbidden until the End Times, leading a growing number of sceptics to claim it's just a pretty rock, especially after the Dwarves claimed they unsuccessfully tested it. Nevertheless, it remains an important religious artefact and a source of resentment towards the Dwarves. If Ozoth took it it would be an enormous morale drop for Doguns (and it could theoretically make her genuinely invincible), and would probably cause religious unrest within the Nation.

The staircase is North, Manifis is southwest and Rodoroc is South. There's nothing of intrest to the East, to your knowledge.

You see two pairs of feet appear at the top of the stairs and Esmé starts trying to drag Halster out. "We'll come back later, okay?"
"No fucking way am I letting you push me around."

You trudge through the mountainous ash fields for several minutes, before you spot a villager, who looks to be the one from the tent. He calmly walks towards you.
"Hello, Gert. I imagine you have a few questions. Ask away."
