Rp - Gavel's Darkest Hour- Act Two Begins [7/7]

This is indeed a great risk - the inn was the first and only time you'd used the spell like this and it was a much shorter drop. Taking a deep breath and holding your swords pointed at your chest, you step gently off of the roof - any movement forwards and you would miss. Trying to judge your speed, you try to time your spell for just before you hit the ledge. As the winds circle around you, you see that you were a bit early, and a bit far forward. In a few seconds, the wind prison will break, plunging you into the river. You survey your options - you could try to grab the ledge as you fall and haul yourself up. You're not very confident in your physical strength, though. You could also let yourself fall and catch yourself at the bottom - allowing you to wade upstream to dry land. Alternatively, you could try to teleport yourself to the opposite bank,

There seems to be nobody around besides Hels, Elimut and the Palace guards, and nobody is using any spells. Opening a second gate, Elimut leads you to the courtyard.
"That's your name, isn't it? Back to the question - how did you meet Doushoins?"

"I really should be the one asking the questions here, but I'll indulge you just this once. Part of the Treaty of the Nine Regions is that all state-held documents from any region must be duplicated and stored in the Royal Palace. From looking at the records of citizenship of the Wood Elf Delegation of the Coalition, I found somebody whose description perfectly matched your own, arriving from Aldorei. Then I checked Embassy records of missing people, and there I found you again. Looking at Togak's notes on each of his citizens, I found fascinating information on your abilities. I confess I didn't have time to read it all, but what I did find was enough to make me want to meet you."

Orienting yourself within the prison, you place yourself to catch the ledge. There's a few seconds of only the sound of wind, and then they dissipate. You fall towards the ledge, your fingers slip past, you drop the swords and you try desperately to cling onto any part of the near-vertical river gorge. Your efforts do slow you down, causing painful scratches to your hands in the process, and you reach a halt, waist deep in water at the bottom. The river flows past fast- it's hard to keep your balance. You spot your swords, a few metres downstream and past a small waterfall. You realise you still have the old ones, but they elven ones you got in the city were a lot better. Esmé was probably right - teleportation would have been the superior option.

 

"Why are you bringing us so far in?" You can easily ask us what you wanted here."

"We all met at the Cinfras' Road. Incident with spiders." Look around at the guards.

Nod at the affirmation. "Seconded."

 

I'll try to swim after the swords

 

Dwarven, though they're spoken identically - it's a different writing system. You can see that it's seven letters long, the second letter you recognise as an H and the last letter is a C.

"Well, I'm not the only one that wants to see you around here. Of course there's Togak - and the summit, which I'm expected to return to, well, now."

He nods. The guards that brought you are off in the city in their separate directions and the Palace guards stand motionless in front of doors.

"So, the incident. This was recently, was it? And I'm guessing you helped the High Delegate out in some way?"

Wading down to the waterfall, you slide carefully down and dive for the swords. It's more difficult than it first seemed - your robes drag you down and the current is constantly pushing you towards the palace entrance, but you manage to retrieve both from the pool below the waterfall. Struggling back over the waterfall, you slip and have to wade back again. You do eventually manage to get back where you started, but it took a while. You notice that the top of the gorge is within theoretical teleportation range, and there's a tree that you can aim at. The safer option would still be to struggle upstream, wasting a lot more time.

 

"She was stuck in her carriage. We helped to turn it over and to stop the spiders attacking it. Two days ago, that was." Say, looking out for the guards. How well armed are them?

 

Nod at his words.
How far away is the exit? >.> And how fast do I think I can get there?

Elimut nods. "So perhaps it was trust - saving her life in the past? Would she have a reason to distrust you?"
The guards carry spears and wear no armour except a helmet - ceremonial arms. Elimut, however, is known for being almost unbeatable in combat, having mastered every spell known and some of his own invention.

The gate to the city is locked, but you could get to the bridge in a couple of seconds and jump off into the river, if you're that desperate.

You can weaken them, not block them. And with Elimut, a weakened spell is still deadly.

"Ah. And did you two know each other before the mission? An odd pair for sure - and staying in a single bed?"

You point your swords at the tree and focus your mana towards the destination, trying not to think about your disastrous previous attempt. You focus towards the point, taking much longer than usual, before releasing. There's a magical pop, and you land just on the edge. Grabbing a sharp rock and throwing the swords down on the ground above, you haul yourself up. That could have gone much worse. As you pick up the swords you determine that your clothes did come with you this time, along with the water in them.
